We are seeking a highly motivated purification scientist with a background in cellular and immunological assays as well as protein purification to be a part of the AbbVie Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine Protein Sciences (PS) team. PS works collaboratively internally and with other functional teams to drive the discovery and engineering of innovative biologic-based therapies across the pipelines. This scientist will work independently as well as part of a team to support AbbVie’s collaboration with the Calico Labs on aging and age-related diseases.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and execute protocols to purify proteins using SEC, IEC, and AEC chromatography using AKTA FPLC systems
• Develop and execute cell-based immunology assays, such as immune cell activation, cytokine profiling, and cytotoxicity assays, to enhance our understanding of drug and target biology.
• Perform biological and biochemical assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD or WES, etc.) to characterize or screen recombinant tool and therapeutic proteins, such as antigens, antibodies and other biologic molecules.
• Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab.
• Effectively coordinate with colleagues and research teams.
• Contribute to experimental design and process optimization
• Effectively organized and communicate research progress through oral presentations and written documentation.
• Keep accurate, detailed and timely records of laboratory work.

Qualifications:

• BS & 7+ years of relevant experience; MS & 5+ years of relevant experience
• Highly qualified candidates will have experience in purification of proteins from E. coli, insect and human cell culture systems.
• Expertise in multi-color flow cytometry is essential.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in optimizing and executing immunoassays.
• Proficiency in cell culture, molecular biology and biochemical assays.
• Knowledge of large-data bioinformatics is a plus
• Experience in research and development of protein therapeutics a plus
• Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced team environment with demonstrated problem solving skills
• High-quality written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative environment
