JOB TITLE: WINTER SEASONAL LABORER
DEPARTMENT: PARKS, TRAFFIC, WATER/SEWER, WASTEWATER, HIGHWAY, GARAGE
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FULL TIME SEASONAL/NON-EXEMPT
UNION/NON-UNION: NON-UNION
The City of Pittsfield's Department of Public Services and Utilities is seeking qualified individuals to fill the Seasonal Winter Laborer positions. The primary functions of these positions is to assist in the snow removal of City Schools and City Park’s grounds/sidewalks, as well as City streets and City owned buildings and property as needed. Duties will include but are not limited to: plowing, salt/sanding, snow blowing, and shoveling. During snow events, you may be required to work twelve (12) plus hour shifts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs general landscaping/grounds-keeping duties, such as mowing, raking, trimming, weeding, cultivating, and snow removal.
- Plowing snow; salt & sand streets, clearings sidewalks, parking lots, snow-blowing and shoveling snow.
- Maintains clean, organized work areas and securely stores equipment and supplies.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs general maintenance of grounds and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Snow plowing experience desired.
- Familiar with grounds-keeping/landscaping tools and snow removal equipment preferred.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, stand, push, and lift heavy objects as needed.
- Ability to interact with people on an up-beat and friendly basis, regardless of circumstances.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbent works in various dynamic municipal buildings and locations. While performing the duties of Seasonal Laborer the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Frequent periods of outside work may be entailed, subject to all weather conditions and extremes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and agility sufficient to operate equipment and supplies used for landscaping and general grounds maintenance, walk long distances over sometimes uneven terrain, lift up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height, and generally perform heavy labor.
HOURS
Monday – Friday, 40 Hours per week
SALARY
Starting rate $17.46 - $18.62 per hour
Annual increases up to $22.69 per hour
