Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Seasonal Program

Program Overview: This program will offer 16 week contracts to RRT’s with the potential to renew contract once, for up to 32 weeks maximum per year. This seasonal role is not eligible for benefits. In addition to a premium hourly pay rate, we are offering a completion bonus, paid at the end of your contract. This bonus is contingent upon meeting all shift requirements and performance metrics during the contract period. Participants are eligible for one completion bonus per year.
Required Job Qualifications Include:
- Valid RRT Credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Licensed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the State of Tennessee Health Related Boards with ABG endorsement
- Current work-permit acceptable per state regulations
- Current BLS
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience
- Will be required to pass a clinical competency evaluation
- Excellent critical thinking and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule: Seasonal Registered Respiratory Therapists will be required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period (36 hours per week) and 2 weekends per month OR 4 weekend shifts per 4 week schedule period. You will also be required to work 2 holiday shifts per 16 weeks. If there are emergent staffing needs, you may be asked to float to another Covenant Health facility within close proximity to your assigned facility.
Both day shift and night shift opportunities are available. The standard is a 12 hour shift, with day shift running from 7 am to 7 pm and night shift from 7 pm to 7 am. Shifts can vary based on the needs of the assigned department.
Current Covenant Health employees are not eligible for this program. Former Covenant Health employees must have a break in service of at least 12 months in order to be considered for this program.
In the case of low census, RRT’s in this program may be called off prior to calling off Covenant Health employees.

Responsibilities:- Demonstrates respiratory care competency of critical and clinical skills on an annual basis.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, handle multiple assignments, balance priorities, and make decisions quickly and function under stressful situations.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform all aspects of respiratory therapy to include age specific and related patient care in a safe and competent manner.
- Demonstrates skill in emergency situations based up on department standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess, identify, and treat patient health conditions as established by organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to make safe, effective, and competent decisions regarding individual patient care. Expresses sound judgment.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate communication to nursing personnel and/or physicians and other hospital staff as necessary. Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills on all socioeconomic levels using tact, articulation and in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates competency/proficiency in mechanical ventilation, CPAP, and BiPAP skills to include current modes of ventilation, indications for use, and calculations of necessary data.
- Demonstrates competency/proficiency in the performance of arterial blood gases and analysis per department policy and procedure. Quality control, troubleshooting, and quality assurance per department policy and procedures.
Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience: Must have documented experience necessary to obtain state license. Two (2) years of experience required.
Licensure Requirement: Valid RRT Credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Licensed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist by the State of Tennessee Health Related Boards with ABG endorsement. Current work-permit acceptable per state regulations. Current CPR.
