Daniel teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities to engage in discussions centered on instructional improvement in order to meet our goal of eliminating the achievement gap. Our staff work collaboratively to support students and are implementing the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports by adopting school-wide expectations for students and adults. Our students support one another through peer tutoring and cross-grade buddy programs. Parent Engagement efforts have increased parent involvement via the Watch D.O.G.S. program, parent nights and the newly formed Parent Teacher Student Association.
The Daniel Elementary Explorers are learning to soar are embracing changes in our school, community and the world. We are student centered ~ staff strong ~ family engaged.
- Provides secretarial support, including typing and/or word processing, graphics, data entry, file maintenance, materials organization and duplication, information recording, and records control.
- Acts as office receptionist, answer telephones and greets visitors; may open, sort, and screen incoming mail.
- Assists in preparation of materials, including collating, sorting, and stapling; assists with materials distribution.
- Assists with the production/duplication of staff materials, including routine use and maintenance of copier equipment (i.e., toner supply, paper supply, routine maintenance checks); may use laminator equipment and ditto or similar machines; produces transparencies; maintains related equipment/production records.
- Assists with the accounting and reporting of school records as directed including, but not limited to, student records, financial records, and general school records.
- In elementary positions, performs supervision of playground during recess and other scheduled student activities as directed.
- Monitors student behavior and takes appropriate actions; maintains related records; may monitor student behavior at crosswalks, bus loading, or in a lunchroom.
- Assists with the daily attendance reporting system, including home-school absence communications as directed.
- Assists with the production and/or distribution of school correspondence, such as building calendars and handbooks; school, district, and community newsletter information; and general public relations information.
- Provides for a friendly, open, and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and school reception area.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
- Provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
- Maintains adequate supplies for office operations; conducts inventory as required or necessary.
- Supervises student teacher assistants.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent educational experience; additional related training desirable; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
- Completion of Kent School District’s clerical testing at the administrative assistant I (C) level, with a score of 70% or higher.
- Valid first aid, CPR card, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and knowledge of modern emergency health-care procedures required for school positions.
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.
- Ability to operate an office computer; word processing skills desirable.
- Ability to operate modern office machines, including office copier, FAX, and calculator.
- Ability to maintain timely, accurate, and efficient record keeping, including preparation of reports from office records.
- Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes, and use of new equipment.
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the general public and ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.
- Customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to communicate in a second language.
- Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics.
- Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
