Position: Security and Alarm Technician
Job Description: The Security and Alarm Technician plays a critical role in the installation, programming, maintenance, and commissioning of security and alarm systems within residential and commercial buildings. This includes burglar alarms, CCTV systems, access control systems, and other related security technologies. In this role, you will collaborate closely with customers, installation teams, service teams, and subcontractors to ensure that all systems are installed and functioning to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Commissioning:
- Install, program, and commission security and alarm systems, including burglar alarms, CCTV, access control systems, and related peripherals.
- Conduct system testing and verification to ensure proper operation.
- Interface with customers to understand their security needs and provide training on system operations.
- Ensure all installations comply with local codes, corporate standards, and safety regulations.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on installed systems to ensure ongoing reliability and functionality.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with security and alarm systems in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support to customers and field service teams as needed.
- Project Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades to coordinate installation schedules and project timelines.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports, including as-built documentation, maintenance records, and system configurations.
Qualifications:
- Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED
- Experience in the installation and maintenance of security and alarm systems
- Senior Level: 3+ years
- Lead Technician: 5+ years
- Strong understanding of security system design and construction documents
- Ability to work in various environments including rooftops, crawl spaces, and outdoor settings
- Must be proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field
- Certification in security and alarm systems (e.g., ESA/NTS, NICET)
- 7+ years of experience in the installation and maintenance of security and alarm systems
- Familiarity with networking and IP-based systems
