Position Summary:Guard facility and property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry; provides safety and security for clients, guests and employees; and provides emergency response by performing the following duties.
This role will pay an hourly rate between $25 to $28.

About the Venue:The Santa Clara Convention Center is proudly owned by The City of Santa Clara and managed by Oak View Group. We are strategically located in the heart of Silicon Valley, a prime location for conventions, trade shows and exhibitions. The Santa Clara Convention Center is minutes from hotels, restaurants, Levi’s Stadium, California’s Great America Theme Park, and many of the largest and most influential technology companies in the world, with easy access to freeways and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport and only 45 miles south of San Francisco. The Convention Center features 100,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 22,400 square foot ballroom, 31 breakout rooms and a 607-seat theater and attracts over 350,000 visitors annually. The facility is an integral economic component of Santa Clara, generating economic benefits through attendee direct and indirect spending and sustaining over 500 local jobs.
Responsibilities:
- Periodically patrol building and grounds of the Santa Clara Convention Center (the “Center”) including docks and parking areas. Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Report potential fire and life safety problems created by clients or Center’s staff to Event Manager or Director of Operations.
- Interact with guard services hired by clients.
- Examine doors and windows to determine that they are secure. Open and lock building entrances and doors according to standard procedure or event directions.
- Warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
- Inspect equipment and machinery, especially sprinkler risers, fire equipment and alarm system and line safety apparatus top ascertain if tampering has occurred or malfunctioning. Prepare Maintenance Request when necessary.
- Respond to alarms and leads immediate response to emergencies created by incidents, natural disasters or other situations endangering people or property.
- Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of the Center’s property.
- Respond to problems of crowd control, request for directions, lost and found, medical or other emergencies as appropriate, summoning fire or police when necessary and directing them to the proper location.
- Sound alarm, call police, and/or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons. Permit authorizes persons to enter property.
- Record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, daily logs, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
- Provide security to the facility and occupants through foot patrol, meet and greet, and CCTV.
- Maintain dispatch duties including checking out keys, radios, and building inventories.
- Manage all incoming package deliveries.
- Monitor radio traffic and assist as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirement listed below is representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of Homeland Security as it relates to public assembly facility.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Ability to work various workdays and hours to meet business needs including early/late hours, long days, weekends and holidays.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write accurate correspondence and reports using Omni Form software, Word document, etc. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees in the organization. Ability to work well with customers, client, and employees with a positive attitude and strong customer service.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized.
CERIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid California Driver’s License
Maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne pathogens
