The Zone 5 Public Safety Lead is to coordinate and direct the activities of the Safety & Security Officers and Public Safety Technicians during their assigned shift. The Zone 5 Public Safety Lead is to provide a safe and secure environment for all UnityPoint Health- Des Moines properties.
Responsibilities:Supervisory Skills ·Prepares shift schedules and post assignments. ·Represents department when interacting with other Hospital departments or outside agencies. ·Sees that subordinates effectively perform job duties. ·Takes leadership role and can effectively make decisions when necessary. ·Motivates employees positively and promotes teamwork within department. ·Gathers all pertinent information to make decisions. ·Takes initiative in making decisions and taking action. ·Reviews each incident report for accuracy and appropriate documention ·Assures MOAB methods are utilized by staff as team members when controlling aggressive patient or visitor behavior.

Effectively monitors Security and fire alarm. Responds to stats, disasters and codes following policies and procedures. ·Monitors all communications from Emergency Communication Center and assists in the distribution of personnel and equipment based upon available resources ·Must maintain and enhance their knowledge and capabilities during emergency and non-emergency situations, performing multiple duties rapidly, calmly, and effectively to achieve the responses needed. ·Keeps abreast on all call disasters and security policies. ·Contacts appropriate personnel for all codes, disasters, and stats. |
Accepts the role of providing personal service tasks ·Provides direct service or help make other arrangements. ·Understands and accepts the role of providing support services. ·Uses good documentation skills for report writing and record keeping. ·Performs specific security tasks as directed such as money transports, escorts, hazard inspection, etc. ·Patrols UnityPoint Health-Des Moines buildings and property. ·Maintains order by enforcing all hospital & department policies. ·Responds to and handles all dispatched calls. ·Adheres to all department and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines policies & procedures.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria ·Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. ·Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. ·Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. ·Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. ·Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. ·Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:
| ·High school education or equivalent required.
| ·Preferred degree in Criminal Justice, Fire, or Emergency background.

Experience:
| ·EMT/firefighter, military, law enforcement or medical background preferred. ·Customer service or public relations experience preferred. ·Have no felony convictions.

License(s)/Certification(s):
| ·Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. ·Must be certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a candidate will complete the course during first six (6) months of employment. ·Must be certified in Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), a candidate will complete the course during first six (6) months of employment. ·Must be certified in “Management of Aggressive Behavior” (MOAB) course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment. ·Must be certified in ASP and Handcuffs course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment. ·Must be certified in Pepper Spray or OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) course, a candidate will complete the course during the first six (6) months of employment. ·Must be a certified officer.To be considered for “certified officer” this position must be certified in the “Basic Officer Training Course” through the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS). · |
