Responsibilities:Assists the Medical Center Administration in its protection program and provides a safe and secure environment conducive to quality patient care. Enforces all established Medical Center and Safety and Security Department policies and procedures related to the protection program concerned with physical and procedural security designed to safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials and documents and safeguards them against theft and damage.

Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range for the role is $20.60 - $23.87 hourly. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
Qualifications:Minimum Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of the New York State Eight Hour Pre-assignment Training Course. Successful completion of the New York State Sixteen Hour On-The-Job Training Course and NYS Security Guard License highly preferred.
Minimum Experience: Experience in security field and/or law enforcement preferred.
Required Certification/Registration: Must be registered with the Security Guard Registry in Albany.
Valid drivers license without violations meeting insurance carrier criteria. Must be certified in BLS. Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
Physical Requirements: Light to heavy duty based on job requirements and emergency situations. Must be able to endure physical elements of standing, walking, running, and possible physical confrontation.
Working Conditions:
- Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Works inside and outside of facility and may be subjected to extended periods of outside work if assigned as a vehicle operator, traffic controller, or scheduled to exterior post assignments, and responding to calls for services. May come in contact with or be exposed to body fluids of deceased patients and/or infectious matter in the course of performing job duties. All Medical Center and Infection Control policies and procedures related to handling, precautions, and protective measures are to be strictly followed.
- Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift up to average of 150 lbs occasionally as part of a two-person lift. Lifting from floor to standing position up to 35 pounds occasionally (supplies and deliveries). Front or side carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally various distances depending upon location of delivery. Walking up to 5 miles during shift depending upon assignment. Respond to emergency situations using the stairwells when the elevators are not in use or when policy prohibits their use. Sitting up to six hours during stationary post. Standing up to six hours during stationary post.
- Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
