Qualifications
As a Self-direction Specialist for Unity House, you will help people by assisting them to learn and develop daily living skills and habits; you will help them take care of their own personal needs; you will advocate for, encourage, guide and teach people to express personal choice. Self-direction Specialists ensure community integration, health and safety and a comfortable home environment. The supports and services you will provide depend on the specific abilities of the person being served, and the nature of the setting where the activities are taking place.
Must be 18yrs or older, have a minimum of a GED, and valid/acceptable driver's license.
Office for People with developmental disabilities (OPWDD) provides a unique program called Self Direction where individuals can hire their own staff to work with them in the community. For more information about Self Direction, please go to www.OPWDD.ny.gov website and click on Self Direction.
Independent young man is looking for support staff to assist with becoming more independent in his community, socializing with individuals his own age, and attending the local gym. He is located in the Auburn area, the ideal schedule would be flexible and some availability on the weekends. The position is for 25 hours per week. Hourly rate is $19.
