The anticipated salary range for this role is between $122,000.00 and $175,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
SMBC is seeking a Vice President, Accounting Policy Specialist. The Vice President will be one of the technical accounting resources for SMBC NY Branch, SMBC Americas Holdings, Inc. and its U.S. subsidiaries (including a broker dealer, lessor entities, swap dealer, commercial bank, etc.).

- Prepare & update U.S. GAAP & IFRS accounting policies
- Transaction Review & Accounting Analysis
- Emerging Guidance Tracking, Implementation & Presentation
- Accounting Research
- Financial Statement Review
- Attending Industry Meetings / Conferences
Qualifications and Skills
- CPA (or equivalent), with at least 7 years of public and private accounting experience in financial services working on investment securities, loans, leases and derivatives with at least 3 and a half years of accounting policy experience and 3 and a half years of public accounting experience (accounting advisory or on call experience is preferred) and expertise of U.S. GAAP and some knowledge of IFRS (Japanese GAAP is a plus but not required).
- Research skills, analytical skills, business writing skills, presentation skills and technical accounting skills (e.g., derivatives, loans, investments, consolidation, transfers of financial assets, guarantees, revenue recognition, leasing and fair value).
