About the Job
Serves as an important team member responsible for tax accounting and other compliance-related matters, with an emphasis on regulated businesses. The position will build strong relationships with finance function and business line tax counterparts in the US SBU and corporate office, reporting into the Senior Manager, US Tax Reporting.
Main Responsibilities:
- Prepare complex aspects of the Domestic income tax provision process, including maintenance of deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions and return to accrual adjustments meeting all KPI targets, with an emphasis on regulated businesses.
- Work collaboratively with the tax team, as well as those outside of Tax, to provide high quality tax reporting and ensure the correct application of unique industry specific rules as may be required.
- Support tax compliance of tax equity partnerships.
- Support regulatory filings and rate cases including preparing and reviewing tax amounts included in regulatory filings, responding to questions from the Commission(s) and other interested parties, and other work as needed.
- Prepare sales & use tax returns and other non-income tax returns.
- Support preparation of property tax returns.
- Understand legislative changes to U.S. federal and state and local tax laws and identify opportunities and adverse consequences.
Qualifications:
- BS Accounting; CPA / MST strongly preferred.
- Big 4 accounting firm or large corporation tax department experience and/or regulated entity tax experience preferred;
- Able to self-organize and coordinate with other tax team members across different offices where appropriate.
- Excellent judgment and verbal communication skills; Ability to synthesize large volumes of information quickly and accurately to advise on ASC740 implications; tailor information to convey, timely, the most relevant data and decision points with various audiences (e.g. supervisors, tax peers and financing and business teams).
- Working knowledge in the ASC 740 technical provisions. Rate case/regulatory experience helpful but not required. Familiarity with HLBV accounting is a plus.
- Strong understanding of corporate and partnership federal taxation.
- Strong organizational and writing skills.
- Willingness to challenge current processes and procedures with an emphasis on developing process improvements to gain overall efficiencies.
- Prior experience preparing Microsoft Excel based tax models. Familiarity with Power BI and Power BI Desktop a plus.
- Excellent problem solving, strategic & creative thinking and interpersonal skills.
Travel within the US may be required.
