Responsibilities:
In this critical role, you will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial reporting processes. You will manage the day-to-day accounting operations, oversee the monthly/quarterly/annual close process, and work collaboratively with internal departments to deliver high-quality financial information.
- Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards.
- Lead and manage the monthly/quarterly/annual close process, including the review and preparation of complex journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Oversee internal control systems to safeguard against financial reporting errors and fraud.
- Supervise and develop the skills of accounting staff, providing guidance on cash management, accounts payable, purchasing, and general ledger activities.
- Possess a strong understanding of technical accounting matters, with a focus on ASC 842, debt accounting, and industry-specific practices.
- Collaborate with the Controller in preparing external financial statements, supporting SOX compliance, and facilitating external audits.
- Partner with research and development teams to ensure accurate accounting for clinical trials and related grants.
- Work effectively with department heads to monitor and report on departmental budgets, forecasts, accruals, and spending.
- Assist the Controller with managing general administrative functions related to HR, IT, and facilities.
- Implement and maintain efficient accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA licensure preferred
- Over eight years of progressive experience in accounting, with expertise in general ledger, SOX compliance, audits, international accounting, and supporting SEC filings.
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, SEC filing procedures, reconciliations, and international consolidations.
- A minimum of two years of experience managing and developing accounting teams.
- Prior experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, with a specific understanding of clinical research/drug development accounting, is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience working with Shareworks Equity management software, XBRL,
Bill.com, Intacct and MS Office Suite
