Amprius develops, designs, and manufactures high-performance lithium-ion cells for advanced applications. Amprius invented and perfected a 100% silicon anode that enables the highest energy density cell commercially available in the industry.
Summary
Senior Battery Scientist plans and executes research on electrochemical energy storage, develops advanced battery materials, and designs Li-ion cell chemistry platforms. The senior scientist evaluates battery components, creates diagnostic testing methods, stays updated on advancements, prepares reports, and collaborates with project teams.
Job Responsibilities
- Conceive, plan, and execute research projects in the areas of electrochemical energy storage systems with limited supervision.
- Identify & develop advanced battery materials and formulations.
- Study cell level component interactions and design chemistry platforms for Li-ion cells.
- Evaluate the latest battery components, analyze their performance, and identify degradation mechanisms.
- Implement & create methods of diagnostic testing for battery characterization.
- Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art in technical areas of responsibility, and its relevance/importance to corporate needs. Prepare timely, high-quality internal reports and patent applications.
- Be an effective member of internal and external project teams in key scientific and technical areas.
Requirements
- PhD in Science or Engineering in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science Extensive knowledge of electrochemical energy storage material.
- Minimum 5 years experience.
- Extensive knowledge of electrolytes, salts, solvents, and additives.
- Strong skills in Li-ion pouch and cylindrical cell design.
- Deep understanding of material-property relationship.
- Hands-on knowledge of battery and/or other electrochemical energy devices testing and design.
- Thorough knowledge of underlying mechanisms of battery materials interaction and battery degradation.
- Industrial working experience is a plus.
