Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Cleveland, Ohio office has an opportunity for a Senior Bridge Engineer with over 10 years of experience in bridge design to join our established transportation practice. Projects would include, new structures design, as well as, evaluation and rehabilitation or repair of existing bridge structures. Candidates will be responsible for the overall project management, the design of projects, monitoring and adhering to budgets and schedules, performing QC or QA reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and working with other staff in completing projects. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to travel for projects site visits, and to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects. The candidate will also assist in the development of the project understanding and technical approach associated with the preparation of bridge proposals.
General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepares or preferably directs; 1) preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for difficult projects. 2) Construction management tasks.
- Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
- Organizes and develops project team to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and project inspection. Must be able to delegate.
- Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.
- Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
- Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside his organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
- Develop and present proposals to clients.
- Directs the inspection of construction site to monitor progress and ensure general conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
- Plans and executes project meeting. May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as scope changes or schedule acceleration.
- Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
- Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
- May set up and perform a client marketing meeting.
- Maintain professional, technical, and supervisory skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Over 10 years of experience in the civil/structural design, rehabilitation, and evaluation of bridges along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates.
- An Ohio Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months.
- Strong experience with structural/bridge design process through application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications requirements.
- Demonstrated track record of providing Project Management and Senior Structural engineering design services for the successful completion of bridge projects.
- Strong experience with the structural/bridge design process through application of the ODOT Bridge Design Manual requirements.
- Established working relationship and credibility with ODOT bridge design staff.
- Strong background in the design of bridges for ODOT and other local transportation agencies.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and experience with engineering design packages such as MicroStation (required), AutoCAD (desirable), AASHTO BrR, LEAP Bridge, and LARSA.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Master’s degree (MCE / MSCE) in Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
- Develop and present proposals to clients in association with the Client Managers.
- Directs the inspection of construction site to monitor progress and ensure general conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
- Plans and executes project meeting. May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as scope changes or schedule acceleration.
- Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
- Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
- Contributes to client marketing meeting.
- Class I railroad bridge design experience and knowledge of the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering is a plus.
- Design-Build experience is a plus.
