About the Job
The person in this position is responsible for broad oversight of Value Analysis (VA) at MyMichigan Health. This includes providing structure and support for all VA Teams and activities, designing and facilitating product conversions through appropriate system governance based on product impact, policy and procedure review and revision impacting VA, preparation and review of data pertaining to value opportunities and MyMichigan Health usage patterns, monitoring cost performance measures, supporting and mentoring VA leads, developing and implementing best practice standards for VA, serve as ambassador for VA practices and principles.
Responsibilities:(30%)* Coordinates system VA best practices and workflows for standardized processes leading to decreased product expenditures and improved product related outcomes.
(30%)* Responsible for system wide standardization of products and implementation of process for conversions leading to continual Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) return on investment.
(20%)* Develops clinical and business case analysis of requests and proposals ensuring system control using safe, high-quality cost-effective products.
(10%)* Serves as a system Subject Matter Expert for relations with GPO and interfaces with Purchasing peers and clinical end-users to ensure value targets are obtained.
(10%)* Serves as resource to all clinical departments supporting effective acquisition and utilization of resources and supplies. Uses clinical experience and literature review to synthesize and recommend best practices for use and implementation specific to MyMichigan Health.
RN: Registered Nurse
Required Education:- Education: Bachelors Degree
- Equivalent Experience: Bachelors degree in Nursing required. Masters degree in Business preferred.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluates impact of new technology adoption and effect on supply expense. Analyzes financial impact by comparing expense to net revenue. Investigates and researches outcomes data and shares with affected discipline. Collaborates with Materials Management (MM) contracting to affect acquisition cost and make recommendations for future contract activities.
Encourages supply formulary adoption and adherence through Value Analysis Team (VAT) meetings and relationships with department directors and system leadership.
Facilitates the MyMichigan Health VAT meetings. Serves as alternative to Chair if person absent.
Fosters collaboration with education resources to ensure that all users are appropriately using and safeguarding all organizational resources to include proper use of supplies as well as equipment and human resources as applicable.
Coordinate the development and monitoring of standardized decision criteria for the evaluation of new supply products in partnership with physicians and clinical staff across the system.
Establish effective relationships with MyMichigan leadership, providers, clinical staff, and other key stakeholders.
Provides input to committees as to the appropriateness of the product mix from a contractual/financial and clinical perspective and provides in-depth cost/benefit analysis when making recommendations to physicians or other clinicians.
Provide a mix of material expertise with clinical capability to facilitate product evaluation, standardization, utilization, and assistance in the development of clinical pathways.
Establishes measurement tools for VAT activities and collects/reports information on financial performance.
Oversees the coordination of new product evaluation, trial, & implementations.
Promotes high quality patient focused cost-effective patient management across the continuum of care.
Accountable for questioning, investigating, developing, implementing, and evaluating cost effective programs/interventions which promote quality patient outcomes.
Liaison between clinical professionals and suppliers regarding expense management.
Serves as a resource to nursing and system-wide committees to promote standardization and cost reduction strategies.
Promotes standardization opportunities system-wide by serving as a liaison for all organizations within the system on product selection.
Researches, introduces and evaluates new products, programs, and technologies which enhance patient outcomes.
Develops Skills and competencies required to more fully implement the role or meet the demands of a changing organization.
Integrates the strategic sourcing process with VA teams as it relates to product utilization and standardization.
Collaborates with departments to monitor and report on compliance of implemented changes in products.
Integrates accepted practice changes and assures that standards of care are achieved and standardization opportunities are operationalized through direct patient care and/or improvement of nursing staff competencies.
Enforces the concept of Contract Compliance.
Collaborates with nurse managers, department directors, and others regarding changes and issues for the improvement of patient care services and standardization opportunities.
Collaborates with physicians, allied health professionals, administrators, finance department staff, MM staff, vendors, and individuals internal and external to MyMichigan Health.
Fosters collaboration with physician champions.
Collaborates with MM for inventory management related to new product introduction and standardization.
Oversees VA Agenda and supports (VAT) meetings. Reports quarterly to the Supply Chain Council.
Communicates regularly with Clinical Specialists and various clinical committees to ensure parallel objectives and offer/solicit feedback.
Presents factual findings to various stakeholder groups to aid in decision making. Analyze, evaluate and monitor all trials followed by selection of the most cost effective and economical product for use.
Evaluate and prioritize standardization and utilization opportunities using information obtained via the logistics information system, hospital financial and operational systems and discussions with administrative leadership, physicians and staff.
Coordinates sub-committee or Adhoc meeting activities as appropriate.
Interact with direct patient care staff to ensure appropriate feedback is received before product decisions are made (e.g., physicians, nurses, radiology technologists, medical technologists, and other ancillary staff).
Work with vendor representatives to ensure adherence to vendor guidelines, hospital and value analysis policy, staff education and product support.
Analyze, evaluate and monitor all trials followed by selection of the most cost effective and economical product for use.
Obtain samples when needed from sales representatives for team meetings and/or evaluation.
Initiates pathway for new product introduction.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Three (3) years experience in clinical supply chain role in a medical center environment and three years of Value Analysis experience required.
Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) through the Association for Healthcare & Materials Management or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) through the Institute for Supply Management is preferred.
Leadership, employee relations and communication skills.
Knowledge of procurement and inventory control practices.
Knowledge of regulatory agency standards such as The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare Services (CMS), the Michigan Department of Public Health (MDPH), etc..
Skills related to department organization, planning and finance.
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0?33% of the workday) lift or carry 11?20 lbs., frequently (34?66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
