About the Job
The Senior Communications Specialist serves as a communications resource supporting the Company’s customer communications and public relations related to the implementation of smart meters in Massachusetts, providing regular strategy and content for communicating with customers, employees, media and other stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the development and implementation of the smart meter project communications plan, ensuring compliance with regulatory directives and commitments.
- Provides advice and counsel on the best approaches to communicating with customers before, during and after implementation of a smart meter, prioritizing a digital first approach when possible.
- Responsible for the daily activities associated with smart meter-related internal and external communications, as well as coordination of strategy and content planning.
- Ensures the consistency and timeliness of messages for all audiences, including customers, employees, media and others.
- Consults with leadership to develop and implement informative internal and external communications that comply with company guidelines and objectives while furthering the project’s overall goals.
- Strategizes and brainstorms effective methods to engage, inform and influence stakeholders. Develops, supports and guides strategic messaging.
- Develops both internal and external relationships and identifies opportunities that enhance Eversource’s reputation for customer service and industry leadership.
- Monitors industry news about the company, its competitors and smart meters, and identifies emerging issues.
- Prepares and disseminates written smart meter communications through a variety of print and electronic outlets, including e-mail, web, newsletters, letters, brochures, news releases, videos, etc.
- Gathers and understands complex information about smart meters to simplify and communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Strong communication skills, including written, oral, public speaking and editorial
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, related discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) or more years of experience in the communication field
- Prior utility and smart meter implementation experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience in speaking to all audiences

- None
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Eversource Energy offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $101,300 to $112,600/year, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Please check our career site for an overview of our benefits.
