Overview:The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will provide advanced competitive intelligence research and analysis for requests emanating from the Business Development, Practice Development, Strategy and Marketing teams including, but not limited to in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, markets, technologies and competitors using a comprehensive variety of online tools and resources. The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will formulate, develop and communicate insightful and actionable intelligence to aid strategic decision-making to drive business development, profitability, growth, client retention and other related business opportunities. The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst will be expected to have in-depth knowledge and the ability to stay abreast of industry trends, monitor financial data, and articulate opportunities for the firm. The Senior Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst has a direct reporting line to the Senior Manager of Library Operations and Research.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Conduct competitive intelligence, business strategy and business development research on targeted prospect companies, individuals, and industries
• Provide deep level of analysis of research findings and synthesize key points in concise and compelling competitive intelligence work product deliverables
• Provide proactive monitoring and alerting using a variety of sources to identify potential prospects and trends in various industry verticals and customer segments of interest to the firm
• Work closely with all areas of Business Development, Practice Development, Client Relations and Strategy and Planning teams
• Provide regular status reports on competitive intelligence research activities and accomplishments to management
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:
• Clear understanding of the differences between information, research, and actionable intelligence
• Strong analytical skills, including quantitative, logical, content and other analytical frameworks
• Ability to distill complex information into key concepts and actionable intelligence
• Deep knowledge and high curiosity about large law firms’ typical client industries, legal services provided by top-tier law firms and legal services competitors, and emerging trends and challenges of the legal services industry
• Knowledge and experience conducting research using external tools, such as PitchBook, Preqin, Capital IQ, Westlaw Litigation Analytics, and Bloomberg Law
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and competitive intelligence communication skills coupled with analytical abilities of company information and data
• Ability to research and organize data in a concise manner and keep abreast of industries, global economic information, legal and geopolitical trends
• Commitment to providing high-quality competitive intelligence research service to a large group of demanding users in a fast-paced business environment
• Strong written communication skills coupled with the ability to analyze and present complex information
• Excellent problem-solving and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Ability to assimilate into existing teams
• Ability to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment
MLS or MBA required; higher educational degree(s) considered such as a JD
• Minimum of five years of substantive research experience in a law firm or corporate environment focusing on competitive intelligence and analysis
• Proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of competitive intelligence projects and prioritize multiple tasks
• Advanced online research skills and knowledge of competitive intelligence databases
• Demonstrated experience in developing, organizing and distributing appropriate competitive intelligence content to key stakeholders
• Knowledge of foreign language(s) desired

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
Chicago: $100,000 - $151,000
Working Conditions:This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
