As a Senior Construction Engineering Technician you will make an impact on the community around you by conducting field and laboratory testing of construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, etc.). Beyond your technical expertise, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high profile and exciting projects across the construction industry, engage with clients, and drive business development for S&ME's success.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Performing testing that contributes to our company's success
- Review of project plans and specifications in preparation of field or laboratory testing
- Performance of laboratory testing for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications
- Documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications
- Use of Metafield, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording of testing results
- Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients
- Assisting with calibrations and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
What You Bring:
- High School diploma/GED
- 5+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
- Experience with ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards
- Two or More Active Certification(s) Required:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
