Join our growing team! This position is a hybrid role (3x per week onsite) that will be based at our headquarters in Fremont, California. Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do The Control Systems Engineer will design and develop advanced tracking, estimation, monitoring, and optimization algorithms for Nextracker’s smart-tracking software product. As the Senior Control Systems Engineer you will: Translate external and internal customer needs into requirements for the tracking, estimation, and optimization algorithms to be developed. Construct and integrate required system models into proprietary simulation platforms to test, tune, and fine-tune the developed algorithms to meet the requirements. Understand and efficiently communicate the value-proposition of the algorithms based on engineering and market assumptions aided by models/simulations. Evaluate the hardware requirements for the developed algorithms and work with the firmware/software (FW/SW) teams to tailor them as necessary. Work with the firmware/software teams to translate algorithms into existing smart-tracking software/firmware environments towards equivalency of the developed algorithms in simulation and in FW/SW. Create and work with automated test and continuous integration procedures to test the normal/abnormal operation space for the developed algorithms. Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementation. Prepare requisition and deployment procedures for the developed algorithms and work with the deployment engineers to tailor them for efficient deployment at customer sites. Create technical documentation for the developed algorithms and for the deployment, and sustaining practices. Support pilot deployments and troubleshoot when necessary. or Ph.D
(EE, ME, CS, ChE) with a focus on control systems. Minimum 6 years of working experience in the control systems field or PhD with extensive research experience in the control systems field Strong background in controls, estimation, monitoring, and optimization algorithms. Experience in controls, estimation, and monitoring algorithm development and deployment. Proficiency in Python, Matlab/Simulink, and exposure to C. Here are a few of our preferred experiences Pre-treatment of historical sensor data and utilization of signal processing methods for system identification and model-order reduction. Experience in developing model-based estimation algorithms such as Extended Kalman Filtering and Unscented Kalman Filtering. Experience in utilization of numerical optimization algorithms, derivative-free and gradient-based methods. Physics-based modeling of dynamic systems, system identification. Working knowledge of reinforcement learning.
