Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 240 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft.
Currently, Student Housing houses 51% of UCI's enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI's 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.
The Department of Student Housing builds, maintains and operates facilities that promote and support a learning-centered and resident-focused organization. Under the supervision of the Custodial or Assistant Custodial Supervisor, the incumbent performs skilled and semi-skilled cleaning, housekeeping, and/or general maintenance duties for most of their time which requires a greater degree of training, skill, independence of action, physical effort and experience than found at the custodial level. Incumbents will operate pressure washers, carpet extraction machines and other equipment required to maintain the facilities in Student Housing. Assignments could include residence halls or apartments, occupied or unoccupied units, common areas/buildings and/or exterior locations. Responsible for the setup and take down of special equipment and furniture. Ability to read, write and speak English to directly communicate with staff and students. Incumbent is responsible for security and maintenance of master keys and assigned equipment. Required to drive a motorized cart and University vehicle to complete job duties. Work may include evenings, weekends and overtime.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $19.86- $21.92 (Hourly).
Required:
- Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community.
- Skill to operate pressure washers, vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet/dry vacs, carpet shampooers and other floor care equipment.
- Ability to sweep, dust mop, polish and perform semi-skilled housekeeping and general maintenance duties of hanging blinds and draperies which require a greater degree of skill, training, independence of action & physical effort and experience.
- Ability to read and write English to submit written reports and work orders.
- Required to operate a motor vehicle.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to work as part of a team and serve as the work leader for a small group of custodians, temporary staff or student staff
- Custodial or related cleaning experience.
Special Conditions:
- Must be able to communicate in English – both verbally and in writing – for purpose of instruction and record keeping.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to pass background check.
- Must be willing and able to respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Must be willing and able to assist in the event of a disaster.
- Must be able to lift and carry loads over 50 lbs.
