Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer to lead our design team in the development of plans and specifications for our water capital improvement projects. The Design Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of design projects, meeting established goals, and adhering to schedules and budgets. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in water infrastructure design, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Role Functions:
- Leads a design team to perform or manage the preparation of site plans, including preparing grading plans to balance earthwork, developing stormwater capture and conveyance design, and ensuring vehicular access to pumps, wells, treatment systems, and conveyance system
- Prioritizes assigned design projects within the area of responsibility. Monitors and reports on design project schedules and budgets, and implements corrective actions when needed
- Ensures the design team meets design schedules and budgets for all assigned water supply and distribution design projects
- Leads a design team to perform or manage multiple potable water supply, treatment, pumping plant, storage, and distribution design projects. Prepares design plans and specifications
- Implements Quality Assurance program for internal design team
- Reviews and opens on submittals and field changes during the construction phase Performs engineering design services associated with the development of Capital Improvement Programs and related design documents such as preliminary design reports, project cost estimates, cost/benefit analysis, value engineering reviews, and various evaluations and reports concerning system hydraulics, water supply, distribution, storage, treatment, and water quality projects
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college required
- Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer, Environmental Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer in the State of California
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in water infrastructure design.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
