SUMMARY
The Senior Designer for Men's Original Penguin Knits and Sweaters is responsible and accountable for the entire design process from conception to production for multiple brands.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create designs within the agreed-upon market trends with SVP of design, that support merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.
- Responsible for trend research and seasonal color and concept presentation
- Build strong, balanced assortments that include core and fashion items as it pertains to multiple product categories.
- Accountable for growing business, process improvement and seeking opportunities to positively affect the company.
- Ensure product design package is complete, accurate and handed off to product development team, tech department and vendors on time for prototypes and salesmen samples.
- Responsible for design presentations to internal and external partners
- Partners with merchandising teams to define seasonal time frame and ensure that creative goals and business goals are in alignment.
- Ensure that the product meets target pricing, tells a strong merchandising story and meets SKU requirements for the brand.
- Responsible for approval of sales samples to ensure garment is production-ready.
- Responsibility to manage and mentor assistant and associate designers as well as interns
- Partners with fabric team to develop new fabrications
- Provide clear direction to the print team to execute desired concepts and inspirations
- Domestic travel for design inspiration as well as for sales presentations with accounts buyers and trade shows.
SKILLS
- Knowledge of activewear fabrications and performance technologies.
- High level of creativity with a passion for design
- Working Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- Ability to learn new computer technology including 3-D design
- Ability to design around concepts with strong sense of style and color.
- Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, colorways, textiles, sewing techniques, graphics, embroidery and trim.
- Strong organizational, time management, communication and presentation skills.
- Pattern making/garment construction knowledge and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business, technical and professional journals or other documents.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures and effectively present information to and respond to questions from overseas offices and other associates.
- Ability to use basic math principles to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area and percentages when working with three-dimensional designs and estimating design production cost.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor degree (B.A) from a college or university, Major in Design
- 5+ years of design experience, must have men's sweater and knit experience
Salary offered will be commensurate with experience. For this New York based position, the expected base salary is $81,668-$109,754
