The Senior Director of Application Development will lead the development of our future SAP technology strategy and roadmap. This role involves strategic planning, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful development and maintenance of high-quality applications that meet business needs and align with organizational objectives. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring a seamless migration to the next version of S/4HANA eliminating as many customizations as possible to reduce total cost of ownership. As such, this role requires a deep understanding of SAP technologies including SAP security, Basis, Cloud Platform Integrations (CPI) and Fiori. This position will report to the Vice President of Enterprise Solutions reporting into the office of the CFO.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Partner with the business to develop and implement a strategic vision for applications development, aligning it with organizational goals and technological advancements. Develop a comprehensive transition strategy outlining the roadmap for migrating from SAP to S/4HANA. Collaborate with senior management to prioritize application development initiatives based on business needs and market trends.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the backend applications development team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Possess a deep understanding of SAP and S/4HANA architectures, functionalities, and integration points. Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Team Management: Lead an SAP technical team, which includes ABAP developers, Security and Basis members, ensuring effective collaboration and a high-performance culture. Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development within the team. Because ABAP is a proprietary programming language developed by SAP, it is critical for the Sr. Director to have a deep understanding of and experience programming in ABAP to effectively guide the team.
- Project Portfolio Management: Oversee the backend applications development project portfolio, ensuring effective prioritization, resource allocation, and successful project delivery. Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to monitor project progress and address issues as needed.
- Business and IT Relation / Collaboration: Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful execution of leveraging S/4 Hana capabilities to address critical business functions. Work with key business partners to align resources, schedules, and risk mitigation to lead this business transformation effort leveraging learnings from previous S4 programs. Collaborate with IT infrastructure and security teams to ensure alignment with ECP long term IT strategy set by CIO/CTO, and function as a liaison between integration team, functional consultants, and development team. Prepare and deliver formal presentations to the Executive Leadership Team as needed.
- Quality Assurance:Establish and enforce quality assurance processes and standards for applications development. Implement testing methodologies to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of developed applications.
- Systems Management: Manage and optimize the SAP environments to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and availability of our S/4 Hana system and ancillary applications. This also includes designing and implementing robust security measures and conducting periodic audit of these policies.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for applications development, ensuring optimal resource utilization and cost-effectiveness.
Skills and Characteristics
- Proven experience in leading ABAP development team, with a history of successfully delivering complex software applications.
- Ability to develop complex business solutions utilizing ABAP and FIORI skillsets to assist the team development team.
- Understanding of SAP's security roles, profiles, and authorizations.
- Knowledge of SAP Basis Administration and cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of SDLC, Software Development Life Cycle including agile and DevOps practices.
- Excel in delivering initiatives on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational strategy and business goals.
- Self-starter to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge.
- Facilitate business requirement definition learning sessions/classes.
- Excellent communication and people skills, capable of building strong relationships with technical teams, functional analyst, and business stakeholders.
- Strong ability to identify, understand, and communicate business needs and complex technical concepts in a simple, concise, and crisp manner to technical and non-technical audiences, servant leadership.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Ability to manage a team through challenging operational engagements with limited scheduling flexibility.
