THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Creative Director at Caraway will play a pivotal role in shaping and bringing to life our brand creative to be utilized across all key channels and touchpoints. This role requires a combination of artistic talent, strategic thinking, and strong leadership skills to inspire and guide a team of creative professionals. Reporting to the VP, Brand & Creative, you will be an experienced creative leader responsible for upholding & elevating Caraway’s visual & verbal identities.
The Creative Director will lead the conceptualization and ultimate development of key pieces of creative that will power marketing campaigns & product launches. This role will inspire, generate, and develop ideas that are strategically-informed and deeply integrated between all brand touchpoints, including creative content production (photos/stills, motion/video, CGI, etc.), print (packaging, mailers, OOH), digital (paid & organic social media, email marketing), and experiential (retail displays, in-store signage, events). As our Creative Director, you will manage a team of 5 direct reports and 3 indirect reports.
WHO YOU ARE:
You are a visionary creative leader with a passion for brand storytelling, art direction, and design. With extensive experience in creative direction or design and managing teams, you bring expertise in developing campaigns across various channels like digital, print, and experiential. You thrive on translating brand strategy into compelling visual narratives that engage and inspire target audiences. As a strategic thinker and problem solver, you effectively lead creative content production, refine brand identities, and optimize processes for efficiency. With a strong understanding of consumer behavior, you align with Caraway’s mission, balancing creative innovation with operational excellence, and fostering a collaborative team culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop & Execute Creative Strategies: Develop, implement, and maintain a cohesive creative vision and strategy that reflects Caraway’s brand identity and resonates with core target audiences. Conduct research and map out forward-looking strategies that ensure the appropriate tools, resources, talent, and programs are in place to scale with the needs of the business.
- Creative Content Development: Provide clear and constructive feedback to Creative team members to guide the development and refinement of visual and verbal content, ensuring it meets quality standards and aligns with project objectives & brand guidelines. Possesses high-level responsibility of medium to large-scale productions (i.e., photo/videos shoots).
- Campaign Conceptualization: In collaboration with Marketing, Growth, Product, & Retail teams, develop and execute impactful seasonal brand marketing campaigns and product launches across all core marketing channels. Ensure creative consistency and cohesive storytelling for all major brand touchpoints (creative content production, print, digital, and experiential).
- Design Systems & Guidelines: Deep understanding and appreciation for design system-based thinking that can help build documentation & guidelines for Growth & Marketing teams to autonomously develop on-brand creative.
- Creative Operations: With the support of a Creative Operations Manager, oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of creative projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and coach a team of designers & creative professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, innovation and professional growth.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- 10 years of creative/art direction, design, content production, or related creative experience.
- 5 years of experience managing marketing teams
- Experience within the consumer goods industry or a consumer-facing brand required
- Strong leadership skills; ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to lead through influence across diverse teams.
- Passion for brand storytelling and creativity with creative that resonates with target audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, keen eye for detail, and ability to manage multiple projects at once
- Deep understanding of consumer behavior and market trends in home, lifestyle, and non-toxic products.
- Resourceful, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Interest in home goods, design, and sustainability, aligning with Caraway’s brand mission.
- Expert in the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, AfterEffects, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere) & like minded design programs (Figma, Miro). Comfortable developing and presenting to large groups, including executive management, either in person or over Google Meet.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively build consensus across teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Communications, or related field highly desired.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $155,000 - $170,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
