The Senior Director, External Corporate Communications, leads developing and amplifying the WM narrative, working alongside the VP, Corporate Communications. This position will develop innovative, insightful, and effective external communications that advance the understanding of WM’s core business and Sustainability growth strategy among key stakeholders while also protecting the company reputation through crisis communications and issues management.
You'll Make an Impact By
+ Developing and promoting a unified corporate narrative and continuing to grow the company's brand and reputation by crafting authentic and tailored content to drive consistency in messaging.
+ Identifying the right avenues to deploy the WM narrative and deploying the narrative through an integrated earned, owned and paid approach. Develop strategies and plans to ensure proactive agenda setting aligned with the business priorities.
+ Serving as senior-level representative for WM by overseeing media efforts during crisis situations; addressing reporter requests and inquiries for top-tier, national and local publications; facilitating executive briefings.
+ Applying creative ways to tell stories and determine the best way to reach and engage with target audiences; continuously challenge and improve the effectiveness of communications efforts, as well as monitor and analyze communication activities to inform future decision-making.
+ Lead communications processes within WM including assessing opportunities for storytelling and announcements, and managing response planning for issues.
+ Manage an agency partner in the development and execution of brand platform and corporate PR programs.
+ Supporting senior business leaders to prepare for media interviews, speaking engagements. Guiding the development of presentations, social media content, video and digital assets to support these efforts.
+ Operating in a highly complex, rapidly changing environment, translating business concerns into practical solutions. Establish trust and credibility and motivate colleagues across the organization.
+ Supporting communications teams and initiatives across the WM Areas; engaging with and influencing a network of communicators through indirect reporting relationships.
+ Oversee all corporate social media channels and content.
+ Acting as a subject matter expert and ambassador to Investor Relations, Government Affairs, and other key functional groups at WM.

+ You have executive presence and experience counseling senior business leaders
+ You have a strong management capability to lead media relations, crisis communications, thought leadership and reputations building
+ You have experience working across teams, cross-cultural understanding
+ You have exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across business teams; proven ability to influence without direct reporting lines
+ You have excellent writing and content creation skills; ability to quickly produce clear, compelling, motivating communications
+ You have proven strategic planning and project management capabilities
+ You are a problem solver, critical thinker, natural storyteller, curious
Preferred Qualifications
+ 12+ years Communications or reputation management experience working with Fortune 500 companies
+ Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, or related field
+ 7 years supervisory experience.
