The US Retail Markets Data Science team brings together a diverse range of talent to predict future risk and what our customers will need to recover. Our data engineers write code that turns trillions of bits of information into structured data—data that our hundred-plus Data Scientists analyze with cutting-edge modeling techniques to unlock insights. From there, our tools and deployment teams ensure this data can be practically applied to business problems across US Retail Markets. The USDS Infrastructure team within USRM is hiring a Senior Director I, Data Science for its Tools team. This Senior Director will lead the development, integration, and maintenance of tools supporting USDS. Provide strategic and tactical direction at the highest levels within own function and department. Guide complex business decisions and contribute to overall growth/profitability through careful tooling decisions. This level reflects expert application and deep knowledge of data, data science tools, and model development/deployment processes, and drives thinking about the appropriate tools for SBU wide analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the management, technical oversight and development of a team of data scientists, analysts and their managers.
- Understands vision, goals, and direction of the organization and effectively coaches the team.
- Collaborate deeply with business partners to develop tools and services to drive strategic decision making.
- Provides strategic and tactical direction at the highest levels across lines and verticals
- Develops the technical direction of USDS’s open-source tools ensuring consistent vision and compatibility across the modeling and deployment process.
- Drive our end-to-end pricing deployment tool strategy improvements standards across all lines of business.
- Encourages tool adoption and feedback to create the best possible USDS tools.
- Works with senior Infrastructure leadership to ensure standards across Infrastructure and a great user experience for our customer teams.
- Responsible for highly technical, individualized and difficult to develop tools and their usage which are transformative in nature and have broad strategic impact to the SBU.
- Participates in developing the broader talent strategy for the data science community.
- Leads large scale or cross functional projects that drive change across function, SBU or Corporate Department.
- Works across product lines with multiple stakeholders and/or business units up to and including enterprise wide.
- Shapes best practices across the data science community.
- Competencies typically acquired through an advanced degree or Actuarial designation and 8+ years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
- Deep knowledge of open-source development tools and best practices.
- Deep knowledge pricing processes and tools, in particular rating related.
- Proven ability to lead and drive projects to completion through others, to include prior experience effectively managing talent.
- Exchanges ideas and conveys complex information clearly and concisely, verbally, visually, and in writing, consistent with stakeholders with up to and including SBU/Corp Dept leadership and enterprise wide.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization and company.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate areas of senior management concern, integrate different perspectives, and respond accordingly.
