About the Job
The Ranching Heritage Association seeks an accomplished and visionary Senior Director of Development to lead the fundraising efforts for the National Ranching Heritage Center (NRHC). This key role will be at the forefront of a $40 million capital campaign to fund the construction and operation of the Red Steagall Institute for Traditional Western Arts—a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to preserving and passing down the knowledge of today’s masters while connecting students, visitors, and society to the rich heritage of Western art and values.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in securing major gifts, particularly leadership and principal gifts, and will work closely with Executive Director Jim Bret Campbell, and Dickerson Bakker, who is serving as campaign counsel for this important initiative. With a clear strategy already in place and the campaign underway, the Senior Director of Development will have the opportunity to build on a strong foundation and leverage an incredible list of prospective donors, giving the Ranching Heritage Association confidence in the campaign’s success. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all major gift fundraising efforts, with a focus on securing seven-figure and higher contributions, to support the National Ranching Heritage Center and the capital campaign for the Red Steagall Institute.
- Collaborate closely with the NRHC team, Executive Director Jim Bret Campbell, and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategic fundraising initiatives that align with the campaign's goals.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with high-level donors, ensuring ongoing engagement and investment in the NRHC's mission and capital campaign.
- Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies, including identifying, researching, and soliciting prospective major donors.
- Oversee the planning and execution of donor events, meetings, and other activities designed to engage and recognize major gift donors.
- Work with the NRHC team to create compelling fundraising materials and presentations that effectively communicate the vision and impact of the Red Steagall Institute and the NRHC.
- Monitor and report on fundraising progress, regularly updating the Executive Director, campaign leadership, and the Ranching Heritage Association Board of Directors.
- Ensure that all fundraising activities are conducted to uphold the highest ethical standards and align with the values of the NRHC and the Ranching Heritage Association.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic fundraising plans and initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to the mission of the National Ranching Heritage Center and the values of the American West.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Major and Principal Gifts Fundraising: Proven track record of securing seven-figure and higher contributions from high-net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations
- Strategic Fundraising Expertise: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful fundraising strategies
- Exceptional Relationship-Building Skills
- Knowledge of Philanthropic Trends
- Advanced Communication and Negotiation Skills
- Proficiency in Donor Research and Analytics
- Experience with Campaigns: Prior experience working on or leading capital campaigns or other large-scale fundraising initiatives
- Collaborative Leadership: Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, board members, and other stakeholders to drive fundraising success and achieve organizational objectives.
- Commitment to Ethical Fundraising
- Advanced Degree or Certification: A master's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field, or certification in fundraising (e.g. CFRE) if preferred.
