Job Description:Position Summary:The Senior Director, People Operations is responsible for leading and supervising a team of Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs), Human Resources Generalist and Compensation Analyst
This role involves strategic planning, development, and implementation of HR initiatives that align with the organization's goals
The Senior Director will work closely with senior leadership to ensure HR policies and practices support the overall business strategy and foster a positive and productive work environment.Reporting to the Vice President, People and Culture, the Senior Director oversees the People Operations team, ensuring the effective execution of People and Culture (P&C) programs and initiatives that support the overall business strategy.This position will serve as a standing member of the People and Culture Leadership Team.The Senior Director will be hybrid and may be based in Washington, DC or New York, NY.Compensation:Salary range based on geo-differentials:$160,000-$185,000/year = Washington, DC$175,000-$200,000/year = New York, NYAdditional Job DescriptionEssential Functions:People Operations Service DeliveryEnsures P&C offers and appropriately staffs and resources all the services needed to effectively support employees.Ensure HRBPs deliver high-quality HR services and support to their respective business units.Provide guidance and support to HRBPs on complex employee relations issues, talent management, employee engagement, and organizational development initiatives.Evaluates services regularly and works with their team to identify improvements in delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness of services.Researches and implements technology solutions and other means of increasing service quality and timeliness.Gathers feedback on services and uses the information for ongoing service improvement.When needed due to high department workload, assists team in the direct delivery of core services
Policy Compliance and ReportingEnsures that the organization maintains compliance with all applicable human resources policies, laws, and regulations, partnering with the Senior Director, Employee Relations, Director, Labor Relations, and the Office of General Counsel as needed.Develops, implements, and updates procedures related to human resources policy compliance.Advisement, Support and ConsultationProvides sound consultation and advisement on complex human resources issues, including employee relations situations, partnering with the Senior Director, Employee Relations and Director, Labor Relations as needed.Review internal and external metrics to draw hypotheses and conclusions that help the organization make more informed decisions about its workforce

Performance ManagementLeads, mentors, and supervises Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs), the Human Resources Generalist and Compensation Analyst to provide clear guidance, expectations, and performance feedback.Constantly assess the training needs of the team to provide feedback to inform the direction of ongoing development.Documents and addresses performance issues in an effective and timely manner.Leads and ensures effective implementation of the performance management process across the organization in collaboration with Director of Learning and Development.Mentor and coach HRBPs to achieve individual high performance, efficiency, and growth opportunities.Total Rewards and Compensation ManagementOversee compensation for job offers, internal promotions or changes, and geographic changes to ensure equity.Works closely with Compensation Analyst to ensure effective administration of Audubon’s compensation program.With oversight of Vice President, define job architecture, position management and workforce planning policies and guidelines.Qualifications and Experience:10+ years of experience progressive Human Resources experience including 3+ years in a leadership role.Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience.Comfort in providing appropriate challenge/pushback and feedback to staff at all levels.Familiarity and experience using Workday preferred.Experience in a unionized environment a plus.Ability to successfully manage change and deal with ambiguous situations.Ability to interact with all levels of management in a fast paced, changing environment.Demonstrated success in large, geographically distributed NGOs, preferably with an affiliate or chapter structure.Excellent leadership and people management skills with a history of forging strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and ability to work collaboratively to build positive and effective partnerships.Collaborative and inclusive leadership styleDemonstrated personal and professional commitment to and experience in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation.Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to assess and interpret data related to compensation and benefits.Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.Superior communication and interpersonal skills.In-depth knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.Strong ethical standards and a high level of integrity.Proactive, with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Effective project management skills to plan, execute, and monitor the implementation of total rewards initiatives.Strong experience hiring, managing, and supporting staff.Deep commitment to building a culture of workplace excellence and experience leading through organizational change.Occasional travel required.EEO Statement:The National Audubon Society is a federal contractor and an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE)
