Senior Director/Vice President, Government Relations
NTI—a global security organization driving systemic solutions to nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats imperiling humanity—is seeking a seasoned professional to shape and lead our new government relations department.
The position—a vice president or senior director, depending on experience—will oversee the organization’s legislative and executive branch strategy and advocacy efforts, shaping and driving NTI’s policy agenda in the U.S. government.
This senior role requires a visionary leader with expertise in public policy and a track record of successful advocacy.
The Senior Director or Vice President will play a key role in advancing our mission by influencing policy decisions and fostering relationships with key stakeholders. This position must have a deep understanding of the legislative and policymaking landscape, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for advancing NTI’s mission through strategic advocacy in the context of a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
This position reports to the President, will directly supervise one staffer, and may be required to register as a lobbyist. This is a full-time position working in DC.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute NTI-wide government relations outreach strategy, working with executive and program leadership, driving impact on the organization’s mission and goals.
- Represent the organization in meetings with legislators, government officials, advocacy community, and other influential stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships between NTI and elected officials, government agencies, coalition partners, and advocacy organizations.
- Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments and evaluate their potential impact on NTI work. Advise senior NTI leadership of key governmental policy and budget developments and timelines.
- Prepare and present regular updates on legislative activities, advocacy outcomes, and organizational impact to executive leadership and as requested, to the Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with lobbying laws and regulations and manage reporting of lobbying and advocacy activities.
What are the requirements for the position? Preferred candidates will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, or advocacy, with a strong track record of leadership and strategic impact.

- Proven experience in high-level advocacy, including successful interactions with U.S. policymakers and legislative bodies.
- Deep understanding of legislative and policymaking processes, policy analysis, and the non-profit sector.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mobilize diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, lead teams, and drive strategic initiatives.
- Interest and experience in national security, in particular reducing nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats.
Hiring Pay Range: $170,000-$220,000 annual, dependent on prior experience and level hired (Senior Director vs VP). This position is eligible for health insurance benefits.
