About the Job
The function utilizes existing procedures and acquired knowledge to provide EHS technical support by coordinating EHS activities and programs. This role supports the implementation, execution, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety systems. You will work collaboratively with the Corporate EHS team, Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering team members, focusing on various projects and initiatives within these teams. This position will provide support to EHS specialists within the network and will report directly to the Director of EHS.
Essential Duties:
- Guide Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at one or more locations.
- Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
- Monitor site-specific EHS leading and lagging indicators.
- Assist the Director of EHS with the creation and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Lead incident investigations, development of corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned in a timely, effective, and thorough manner.
- Review accidents and incidents, conduct audits and reporting; oversee EHS corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Environmental, Health, and Safety documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Lead environmental compliance efforts and monitor permit requirements.
- Identify training programs to meet needs, track training progress, and onboard employees with environmental responsibilities.
- Act as EHS Subject Matter Expert, responding to questions from various stakeholders.
- Coordinate with Manager, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments on facility deficiencies through site audits and inspections.
- Conduct audits to monitor personnel and workspace improvements.
- Drive and guide the on-site EHS support that leads the EHS management system through proactive engagement with the location EHS program champions to execute EHS policies and ensure compliance.
- Ensure that Corporate EHS Applications are embedded in the operation and that these management practices drive the appropriate behavior.
- Identify site-specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS management system, and enable the successful implementation and sustainability at a local level.
- Utilize the EHS Enterprise System (Gensuite - EHS) to record and analyze accident and incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective actions, emphasizing proactive intervention.
- Partner with leadership and operators, ensuring that the environment is free from risks to health and safety.
- Assist with the new employee orientation process and ensure completion of EHS training for all employees.
- Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected.
- Act as a mentor to other EHS Specialists within the network.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead a team indirectly through ownership of a process or project.
- Demonstrate an ability to have tough conversations and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Use data to make recommendations on changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and tools to prevent accidents, and educate and protect employees.
- Work with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation cases, ensuring they are in line with company policy.
- Coordinate with appropriate industry-related vendors and SMEs, related to the EHS needs of the organization.
- Support sustainability operations assessments.
- Support leadership on capital project planning to align sustainability efforts with capital and engineering projects.
- Conduct hazard and operability studies on existing and new processes.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Under This Roof, We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional, (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist, (CIH), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of work experience in workplace environmental, health, and safety program management preferred.
- Experience with Process Safety Management concepts like Management of Change preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, accident/injury investigation procedures and operating rules, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with computer skills. (Google Suite)
- Excellent organization and time management skills, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and business travel when needed.
