As a member of the Rail and Transit Construction Management team, the Senior Electrical Inspector will be given opportunities to use your transferable skills to define processes, create execution plans, mentor the junior team members, and be the technical lead for multiple projects. You will be supported by management to develop work plans and professional skills to become a strong leader in the infrastructure construction management environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Project Manager/Resident Engineer in documenting construction activity related to rail and transit traction power systems & design management.
- Assist in monitoring construction contractor activity related to the installation of electrical, communications and signal equipment and fixtures, and A/C power and communication components in transit facilities.
- Create and enforce an environment that promotes project safety protocols particularly as they relate to powering on and off third rail service.
- Monitor adherence to approved plans and specifications.
- Make a thorough record of the work observed by completing and submitting a Daily Construction Report in accordance with client procedures.
- Interface with the construction work force, primarily with foremen and field supers.
- When necessary, point out conditions that may lead to unsatisfactory work, maintaining a professional and courteous manner.
- Identify deficient contractor work, monitor and verify that the Contractor effectively corrects deficient work.
- Monitor Contractor compliance with the Contractor’s Safety and Health Plan and with specific Safe Work Plans.
- Monitor and ensure Contractor’s compliance with the approved Contractor’s Quality Plan in coordination with Quality specialists on-site including Contractor’s, CCM, and NYCT representatives.
- Monitor and verify the production by the Contractor of a manually marked up “As-Built” drawing set. Subsequently participate in review of the finalized Record Drawings submitted by the Contractor.
- Contribute information for daily manpower, materials, and equipment report, and weekly progress summary including photos. Contribute information for other reports such as Monthly Technical and Progress reports summarizing activities of the Contractor and of the RE organization.
- Observe independent testing and monitor instrumentation readings.
- Provide technical support for procurement, construction and testing and commissioning.
- Developing cost estimate, design program, work scope, resource planning & schedule, reporting and forecasting.
- Strong leadership & direction of allocated resource & tasks.
- Mentoring, developing, and training of junior staff.
- Other duties as assigned/required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field preferred. Candidates with electrical training and significant years of experience will also be considered.
- At least 15+ years of experience working on construction projects in construction inspection and daily report writing preferred.
- NYCT PM 123 EIC certification preferred, or ability to obtain.
- OSHA 30-hour safety course certification preferred, or ability to obtain within six months.
- Previous experience in Rail & Transit projects is a must.
- Experience with transit agencies such as NYCT preferred.
- Knowledge of medium voltage electrical design.
- Knowledge of load flow and fault current analysis.
