Role: Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Designer

Role Description: As a Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Designer, you must have at least 8-15 years of experience. The Senior E/I Designer does not have direct supervisory duties but may provide guidance to other designers and contract personnel when directed by Management, Senior Engineers, or Engineers.
Depending on experience, may lead E/I efforts for projects and initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Translate conceptual designs and sketches into detailed engineered drawings suitable for purchasing, field erection, and design analysis, using AutoCAD software.
- Create E/I drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of the company's plants.
- Review E/I drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas and design sketches.
- Recommend design modifications to enhance desired design outcomes.
- Prepare requisitions, quotations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Conduct basic equipment and system calculations.
- Coordinate with external engineering consultants on project requirements.
- Assist in detailed engineering activities for bulk items such as cable trays, conduit design, electrical and instrument cable specifications, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection.
- Act as Lead E/I individual for projects by directing E/I system design efforts, checking drawings and calculations, developing specifications for purchasing, reviewing vendor documents, and ensuring integration of vendor information into detailed designs.
- Provide technical support to Aftermarket, Inspections, and Purchasing departments, including review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of electrical equipment and instrumentation.
- Travel to job sites to analyze equipment, gather data, interact with plant and fabricator personnel, perform inspections, and gain insights valuable to design considerations.
- Travel as required for departmental, project, and corporate tasks, and assist in construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Collaborate effectively across departments and with all levels of personnel to achieve consensus and optimal solutions.
Skills and Abilities:
Required:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related Autodesk products.
- Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Experience in supervising field erection activities and providing technical support in industrial settings, particularly in Direct Reduction or steel industries.
- Willingness to travel internationally to various company job sites.
Preferred:
- Experience with international travel.
- Background in industrial plant operations.
- Familiarity with E/I systems design in hazardous areas and adherence to NEC/NFPA and local codes.
- Knowledge of bulk items design such as cable trays, conduit, lighting, and grounding.
Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related discipline, or a minimum of 15 years of experience in an industrial or technical environment.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in an industrial or technical environment, with experience in the steel industry preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- 10%-25% international and domestic travel based on project demands.
- During project startup/commissioning phases (typically in the 3rd year), travel may exceed 50%.
Physical Requirements:
- Extended periods of desk work and computer usage.
- Ability to move around project sites, including climbing structures via ladders or stairs.mid
Education: Associate Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related discipline
Experience: Minimum 8-15 years of experience
Relocation: This position will not cover relocation expenses
Travel: 10% to 25% international and domestic travel
