We are looking for a dynamic Senior Electrical Superintendent with an uncompromising commitment to safety and quality to join our Project Delivery and Construction team in Somerset, New Jersey.
The Senior Electrical Superintendent leads construction site activities, overseeing electrical trades and managing field operations for projects. This role supports the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager by monitoring work progress, managing subcontractor manpower, and ensuring effective coordination between electrical and other trades. The primary focus is to ensure that subcontractor and vendor work related to electrical systems is completed safely and in compliance with contract documents and project schedules. Additionally, this position is responsible for collecting and assembling on-site testing and inspection reports for electrical work, as well as completing Construction Completion Records for close-out documentation for the IPS Commissioning/Validation team and the client.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assume primary responsibility for activities associated with electrical systems and trade partners on assigned construction sites.
- Lead assigned vendors and subcontractors to meet project goals.
- Ensure the achievement of safety objectives on assigned projects.
- Ensure the achievement of corporate goals for assigned projects.
- Ensure projects meet applicable quality requirements.
- Interact with clients on-site regarding electrical work and promote positive relationships.
- Support the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager in developing and maintaining preconstruction, construction, and closeout execution plans.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules, including targeted and actual activity lists, durations, and sequencing logic.
- Develop a working knowledge of the project budget for assigned trades and identify exceptions throughout project execution.
- Support the Project Director and Project Manager in developing change control documentation and related financial documentation, vigorously protecting corporate positions.
- Oversee the work of assigned vendors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
- Participate in constructability reviews of design documents.
- Support the procurement and coordination of all required extra-corporate project resources.
- Conduct pre-bid walk-throughs and de-scope meetings with the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager.
- Assist the Project Manager in evaluating vendor and subcontractor invoices and requests for payment against actual performance.
- Manage subcontractor and vendor field T&M change requests, evaluating their legitimacy in terms of contractual requirements and cost estimates.
- Facilitate communication between subcontractors, vendors, and project personnel, producing documentation of communications between project participants.
- Make periodic site inspections and evaluations, reporting on the results.
- Support the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager in producing daily reports of site conditions, including weather, force levels, and safety issues.
- Review job safety analysis documentation and other safety documentation in concert with IPS Health and Safety Professionals.
- Participate in periodic coordination meetings with trade subcontractors on-site.
- Ensure that all submittals are distributed, reviewed, and stored to meet project and corporate requirements, reviewing as necessary.
- Ensure compliance of project activities with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee startup and commissioning activities of assigned trades if included in the project scope.
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a construction superintendent role on large projects with a focus on electrical systems in the life sciences of pharmaceutical industry
- Experience working on MEP systems including but not limited to process piping, mechanical systems, HVAC, and electrical equipment / distribution.
- Experience working directly with clients on site.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical, biotech and/or animal health facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline or an equivalent technical degree.
Safety
- This position will require the individual to be located near assigned client project sites.
- Overnight travel or staying in the city of Client’s location for an extended period of time is likely.
- You will visit Client sites and will be required to adhere to stated safety rules.
- You will visit construction sites and will be required to take site safety training and adhere to site safety rules.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. The employee is considered a field contractor supervisor and acts in a supervisory role for field work for IPS employees or subcontractors.
