Your Impact
The Mesh and Opportunistic Networking Team at Axon is building hardware and software that enables First Responders to continue communicating when "off-grid". Axon's existing products and services assume LTE and/or WiFi connectivity to the cloud, and this is not continuously available during our customer's most critical missions.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to design and build the software components that make this possible. This will include MAC and higher layers for RF communications subsystems as well as application-layer changes to remove the assumption of continuous cloud connectivity. This software will be used in our RF subsystems and will be integrated into our Axon Body cameras, our SkyHero UAVs, our Axon Fleet vehicle computing systems, and other future applications. The Senior Software Engineer II will be the most senior hands-on software engineer in the team developing products and solutions.
What You'll Do
Location: Work from home as much as you want, live nearby any of our awesome US R&D Hubs (Seattle, Scottsdale, Atlanta, or Boston) so you can easily collab in-person when it's helpful and be an active part of our vibrant Axon culture
Reports to: Distinguished Engineer
- Participate in research and development of the communications subsystems for our next generation products, with a focus on custom MAC layers and mesh networking protocols
- Participate in research work on new technologies and implement proof-of-concept prototypes
- Participate and drive critical decisions concerning critical architecture choices
- Work with our Connected Devices, Sky Hero UAV, and Federal teams to understand requirements and integrate software and protocol stacks
What You Bring
- Master's in Computer Science or equivalent through experience
- A passion for mesh and/or opportunistic networking technologies
- Programming languages: C/C++ knowledge in an embedded context, Go
- English proficiency required
Any experience with the following is a plus:
- MAC layer implementation
- Mesh or P2P prototcols
- RF or Software Defined Radio (SDR)
- Embedded Linux, especially device drivers

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 140,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 250,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
