About the Job
The City of Topeka is seeking a technical professional to serve as its Senior Engineering Technician. This incumbent performs high-level traffic engineering work. The position is responsible for operation and maintenance of traffic data collection equipment and traffic counts and assists the City's Traffic Engineer in determining traffic control solutions and applications.
What you'll do:
- Assist with using, training, and updating traffic control standard drawings and specifications.
- Communicate with the public to explain traffic control device installation policies and investigate related complaints and questions.
- Determine traffic control requirements for street improvement and large emergency repair projects.
- Review pavement marking, signing, and signal construction plans.
The ideal candidate:
- Is an experienced inspection professional with knowledge of tools, materials, and techniques used in the inspection of streets, sewers, sidewalks, bridges, and more.
- Has the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgement.
- Possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all members of the community and the organization.
Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have a minimum of three years of experience in engineering technical support. Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and meet insurability requirements set by the City's insurance carrier.

Entry rate of pay: $24.64 - $29.56 DOQ
