Job Title: Senior Heavy Truck Mechanic – The Truck Shop, LLC.
Job Overview: The Senior Heavy Truck Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks, trailers, buses, and other related equipment. This position involves leading a team of mechanics, managing workflow, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards, and providing technical expertise in complex mechanical systems. The Senior Heavy Truck Mechanic works in collaboration with other departments to ensure that all vehicles are safe, functional, and operating at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostics and Repair:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on heavy-duty trucks and related equipment.
- Repair or replace faulty parts such as engines, transmissions, suspension systems, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and cooling systems.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and rectify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections to ensure vehicles comply with safety standards.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead a team of mechanics, providing guidance, training, and mentorship.
- Assign and monitor work assignments, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Ensure that mechanics adhere to safety guidelines and industry regulations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate with management and other departments to provide updates on vehicle status and repair timelines.
- Order and track parts inventory, ensuring that necessary parts and tools are available when needed.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all vehicles and repairs meet federal, state, and local safety and emissions regulations.
- Adhere to and promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and protocols.
- Identify and mitigate safety risks in the shop and while working on vehicles.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in heavy-duty vehicle technology and repair techniques.
- Troubleshoot and repair advanced mechanical and electrical systems, including computer-controlled systems.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with fleet managers, operations personnel, and vendors to prioritize repairs and maintain fleet efficiency.
- Provide technical assistance and support to other mechanics and departments as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical training or certifications (ASE, CDL) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience as a heavy truck mechanic, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead position.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and heavy vehicle repair equipment.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy vehicle regulations.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding environments.
