Career Opportunity
We are currently seeking candidates for an IT Specialist/Networks position, located in our Wallops Island, Virginia station. Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island, VA requires support for management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems and computer programs in support of all Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) missions and projects performed at SCSC. SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate, and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and configure routers, switches, firewalls, and cabling.
- Maintain compliance with DoD Security Technical Configuration Guides (STIGS).
- Monitor network performance.
- Respond to trouble calls, isolate, and correct performance issues.
- Maintain network drawings.
- Maintain training and certification for currently deployed technologies.
Travel
- This position includes a low level of travel.
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Network Engineering, Cyber Security, or related degree and five years of relevant experience.
- Relevant experience: switches/routers /firewalls, IDS, DISA STIGS, PKI, NTP, Storage Area Networks, PoE, FPoE, SCSI, and DNS. Within the period of relevant experience, preferred to have a minimum of two years working in Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E).
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in written and oral presentations.
- A Master's degree in a related field will substitute for two years of the relevant experience requirement.
- Seven additional years of directly related experience to include network engineering, maintenance, and security applied to RDT&E and business environments, DoD Information Technology systems, demonstrated knowledge of secure network configurations, military system specifications, network administration, and demonstrated experience with various IA-enabled appliances may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must have one of the following: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, or GCIH.
Qualifications
- Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly desired; however, candidates eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. The selected candidate will receive a contingent offer if they do not hold an active clearance. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor or manager when not in the office.

- Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
- Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
- Lifting boxes (files and supplies) up to 20 lbs.
