We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and talented Senior Manager – Accounting Policies & Procedures to oversee Adtalem’s research and analysis on technical accounting matters, including assessing significant transactions and the impact of new accounting pronouncements.
This role will be heavily involved in advising on transformation efforts, material contracts, and all other technical accounting matters to ensure that the accounting and reporting implications of transactions are understood by senior management. You will be on the cutting edge of regulatory pronouncements emerging from the FASB and SEC.
In addition, the position will be significantly involved in improving the operational effectiveness of the accounting team to support Adtalem’s growth. This position provides high visibility within the Finance organization with an excellent opportunity to work closely with key executives (CFO, CAO, Assistant Controller), expert advisors, and auditors. The position will partner with Corporate Development, HR, Legal, FP&A, Treasury, IT, and other departments in the achievement of common goals and objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Research and document accounting treatment for new program offerings and complex transactions. Advise management on the implications of accounting and financial reporting impacts.
- Be a change agent and propose recommendations for changes and improvements to accounting policies, procedures and controls to meet business needs.
- Drive and partner with cross-functional teams to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures
- Serve as a key liaison with external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits, providing support and documentation as needed.
- Monitor the development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules being deliberated by the SEC, FASB, PCAOB, and other regulatory bodies.
- Assess and implement accounting policies and procedures for current and newly issued GAAP standards, including development of project plans.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies, Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls, GAAP standards and statutory requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual reports on Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, and other SEC filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Directs and controls the teams’ general accounting activities as needed, including recording company transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Adheres to internal control policies and procedures and maintains high ethical standards of integrity, confidentiality and quality.
- Mentor and develop staff members within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Empowers staff to identify and implement process improvements.
- Provide periodic technical accounting training to the members of the Accounting and Finance organizations.
- Partners with leaders in Corporate Development, HR, Legal, FP&A, Treasury, IT and other departments to achieve financial and operational excellence.
- Support the Controllership on other ad hoc projects and requests as determined by management.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Required)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Preferred)
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in leadership roles with a proven ability to:
- Build and develop high-performing teams
- Drive team objectives and performance
- Achieve results within established timelines (Required)
- In-depth technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including but not limited to:
- Deals
- Revenue recognition
- Leases
- Credit losses
- Derivatives
- Internally developed software
- Stock-based compensation (Required)
- Experience working in a public accounting firm (Required)
- Extensive experience in systems and process improvement (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong technical skills in U.S. GAAP and robust managerial capabilities
- Expertise in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues, along with the ability to recommend and implement effective solutions
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities as needed
- Proven ability to facilitate teamwork and cooperation at all levels within the organization, with the capacity to work independently with limited supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly diligent, well-organized, and detail-oriented
- Insightful with a strong service orientation
Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $80,336.75 and $145,077.09. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
