We are looking for a Senior Manager, Construction Services to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the VP, Customer Installations Group and will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role.
The Senior Manager, Construction Services will manage the site team through the construction phase of the Bloom Energy installation. This position will interface extensively with GC’s, AHJ’s, project management, engineering, utility and field service teams.
Knowledge of construction, specifically electrical (low and medium voltage) and mechanical (gas/water) applications is essential. An understanding of civil, structural applications is beneficial. This background is key to properly managing and guiding the site team’s execution of site installations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising the site team’s work schedule, time off and department allocation.
- Assignment of site team members to support:
- Site build activities with Bloom Energy team and subcontractors
- Creating a culture of personal responsibility, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Site investigations based on site visit needs of the installation planning team
- Coordinate with Field Service Personnel and Utility team to ensure that the site team correctly plans the site/system commissioning and final utility interconnections and utility inspections
- Manage site GC activities to ensure schedule performance
- Interface with GC’s and trades to validate change orders and ensure all reasonable efforts are made to reduce or eliminate cost increasing change orders
- Provide feedback to EPC / GC team on GC performance.
- Monitor day to day activities of the Bloom site team, contractors, and audit safety standards
- Training of new team members and ensure all trainings are up to date and documented.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and cost savings in build activities based on lessons learned and site team feedback.
- Responsible to ensure the site team is correctly and efficiently executing the following tasks:
- Reviews and approves site design drawings
- Performs site and system verifications as required
- Properly manages the commissioning of all Bloom Energy ancillary equipment on projects.
- Assists project managers in controlling budgets & maintaining or accelerating project schedules as required.
- Verifies and supports all project execution documents are technically complete and meet the local and state laws
- Compliance of all safety, and performance metrics during site construction for Bloom Energy personnel and General Contractors
- Bloom Energy customers have 100% Customer Satisfaction with the construction and installation process
- Managing the coordination and troubleshooting of site network connectivity with project manager, Bloom Energy IT & host customer
- Confirm revenue reporting meters are installed and functioning properly
- Responsible for Development of the following items:
- Robust process controls to Coordinate shipment, placement, anchoring of fuel cells based on site team feedback
- Training plan for the employees and first emergency responders about fuel cell system operation & safety
- Two week look ahead and project site visit requirements.
- A communication protocol with project managers to ensure site team provides weekly status reports of all site activities following weekly review of GC reports /site visits
- Present site updates, risks and opportunities to senior management on a bi-weekly basis.
- Extensive travel within the region is required; may require some travel outside of region
- Off-hour and weekend work may be required to support installation plan
- Recruit, develop, and manage team members including evaluating performance and providing feedback and coaching
- Hold team to high standards and Conduct himself / herself in a Professional Manner at all times.
Skills and Experience:
- 8 – 12 years of relevant work experience is required
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction: Including technology, equipment, methods, cost control methods, and safety requirements
- Must possess a highly motivated personality and a strong ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus
- Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers, utility and government personnel
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical single line diagrams and blueprints
- Experience building and leading a distributed, high performing team
- Drive team and general contractors to deliver on-time schedule and budget commitments.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Familiarity with building/mechanical/electrical codes (NEC, NFPA) required
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Associates / Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science or in a related field preferred.
- Background in facilities, power systems, and grid interconnection
