JOB SUMMARY
As the Senior Manager of Data Strategy at POET, you will establish and lead the Data Management Team for the enterprise. This role will be responsible to develop and execute our data strategy and will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end data management lifecycle, ensuring the quality, integrity, and security of our data assets. The Senior Manager of Data Strategy role will require a combination of technical understanding, strategic vision, and strong leadership skills to influence and provide thought partnership to our enterprise leaders and key stakeholders. This position will report to the POET Chief Information Officer.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data availability and management strategy aligned with enterprise business objectives and desired business outcomes.
- Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, accessibility, integrity, compliance, and security.
- Partner across the organization to implement master data management best practices to ensure delivery of key data at the greatest value to the enterprise.
- Establish best practices to build and maintain data quality metrics and continuously improve data quality standards at appropriate costs.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.
- Advance our data mindset culture across the organization by providing thought leadership and partnership to enterprise functional areas and business stakeholders.
- Foster a high data-accessibility culture, related competencies and data literacy across the enterprise. Lead these transformation efforts by developing talent and maturing the capability of the organization.
- Oversee delivery models, methods and practices for creation of data products and to ensure consistent application and efficient use of data and analytics solutions.
- Connect with stakeholders to identify stakeholders’ unmet data needs that expose new opportunities. Assist the stakeholders in developing the value proposition of fulfilling the unmet need.
- Organize and chair the POET Data Governance and Stewardship Council.
- Explain complex issues simply and intuitively with willingness to challenge assumptions, communicate limitations, and flag trouble spots.
- Help business units align with strategy framework and advance their key data capabilities.
- Provide crucial insights and recommendations for improvement on different aspects of data efforts and initiatives (from project prioritization to uses cases to product backlog).
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Field required; Masters preferred.
- Eight or more years of related experience in data management.
- An in depth understanding of data governance, data quality, and data security principles.
- Understanding of approaches and technologies for managing data across the data lifecycle.
- Ability to build constructive and effective relationships with a broad and diverse group of business partners to navigate complex situations.
- Can effectively influence and present ideas that lead others to action.
- Ability to think critically, recognize connections, translate goals into action and use strong judgment to make choices in alignment with strategy and company culture/values.
- Proven track record of delivering data solutions.
- Ability to effectively drive business, culture and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
- The ability to express business outcomes in terms of your stakeholders (e.g., in terms of revenue growth, or cost and risk reduction).
- Demonstrate data literacy and be able to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options. The ability to translate among the languages used by executive, business, IT and quant stakeholders.
