Senior Manager of Technical Accounting
Responsibilities:
- Manage the company's revenue recognition processes in accordance with ASC 606 and other applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare and manage revenue and deferred revenue waterfall/schedules as part of month-end closes.
- Review and approve complex revenue contracts, ensuring proper documentation and recognition practices.
- Partner with the AR team, sales, legal, and finance teams to provide guidance on the financial impact of new contracts and pricing structures.
- Oversee the cost accounting process, and review costs to obtain revenue contracts in accordance with the requirements of ASC 606 and ASC 340.
- Prepare whitepaper on complex revenue issues based on technical accounting research.
- Develop desktop procedures, policies and training materials around revenue recognition and overall order to cash processes.
- Research, interpret, and implement new and existing accounting standards and their impact on the company’s financials.
- Prepare a number of complex calculations/analyses such lease schedules, debt roll forwards, bad debts and inventory obsolescence calculations, among others as delegated.
- Serve as the go-to expert on GAAP and other relevant accounting regulations, providing guidance on complex accounting issues.
- Lead the assessment and implementation of technical accounting matters, such as business combinations, stock-based compensation, lease accounting, and other significant transactions.
- Assist the VP of Accounting in developing and/or updating the company’s Accounting Policies and Procedures and in performing knowledge transfer/training to the department as necessary.
- Actively assist in the completion of month-end close activities, including preparing relevant analyses/journal entries on areas of responsibility specially revenue and cost related items.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statement preparation and disclosures.
- Manage external audits related to revenue recognition and technical accounting areas.
- Liaison with both corporate auditors and statutory auditors at the local subsidiary level as necessary.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance with accounting standards and company practices.
- Detailed reviewer of financial consolidations to be prepared by Corporate Accounting Manager, prior to submission to VP of Accounting
- Lead and mentor a team of revenue and technical accountants, providing training and professional development opportunities.
- Assist the VP of Accounting in overseeing the daily activities of the team, including workload management, performance reviews, and goal setting.
- Proactively lead and/or participate in completing adhoc projects.
- Collaborate with departments such as FP&A, Sales, Legal, and Operations to ensure accurate financial information and support business decisions.
- Work closely with the tax and treasury teams to assess the financial and operational impact of revenue recognition and technical accounting issues.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by Management.
Skills / Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. Finance or related business field will be considered, depending on relevant accounting work experience.
- CPA designation is required. Inactive status is acceptable.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on revenue recognition, cost accounting and technical accounting.
- Public accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four firm, is strongly preferred. Other national audit firm experience will be considered.
- Experience working with accounting standards such as ASC 606, ASC 842, and other relevant GAAP requirements.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and accounting standards.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex accounting issues and communicate them to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in financial systems (e.g., SAGE, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Hands on team member but with strong ability to see the big picture, and communicate technical accounting terms in simple, easy to digest terms.
