Job Summary/Purpose
Entergy is looking for a talented, experienced, and innovative Senior Engineering Manager Senior to lead our Power Development engineering team in driving innovation and technological advancements to enhance the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of our new power generation systems. This position collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and maintain the company’s standards in engineering design for new generation plants (gas and renewables), energy storage projects, and other zero/low carbon technologies. This position ensures those standards are properly applied during the design and construction phase, and this position is required to support large projects or programs of projects in this capacity. This position must also keep abreast with new technologies and industry trends/lessons learned and develop new standards as necessary to support delivery of new forms of low/zero carbon power generation and energy storage projects to support the corporation’s stated sustainability commitments to reduce carbon emissions.
Applicant is a leader and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders including internal/external support groups across Entergy and contractors. This individual is responsible for the leadership needs of his/her cross-functional team, technology understanding and experience, and building an effective relationship with key internal individuals as well as externally, where applicable. Manages risks to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Develops a team of engineers that are capable of developing and maintain the company’s engineering standards for new power plants, energy storage projects, and new low/zero-carbon emission technologies, such as carbon capture. Utilizes strong interpersonal skills and technical expertise to lead and develop their direct team, as well as the other members of his/her cross functional team. Leads a cross-functional team from members across the enterprise to ensure those standards are properly applied during the design and construction phases of new projects. Supports the project team by developing deliverables as necessary to progress a project through the Entergy Stage Gate Process. Creates a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and leads the implementation of best practices to capture these improvements and lessons learned.
- Works with leadership to identify and assess new technologies that have the potential to decarbonize or improve the performance and reliability of power systems and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and execute technology roadmaps for the integration of these emerging technologies. Works with the leadership of the Power Development team, the Entergy Operating Companies (OPCOs), and others from across the enterprise to develop plans to screen, evaluate, and further develop new technologies ultimately to potentially implement new emerging power generation and energy storage technologies.
- Stays current on industry trends and advancements in emerging technologies to ensure the company remains informed on the timing and viability of the technologies. This will help to guide when these resources/technologies should be included in our resource mix to meet load growth opportunities while maintaining diversification, affordability, and sustainability of our energy portfolio.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors and partners to facilitate technology adoption and collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in the implementation of new technologies.
- Ensure timely maintenance/update of the technical standards to incorporate lessons learned and industry advancements for the various resources/technologies through collaboration with key stakeholders, SMEs, OCPCs , etc. to support OPCO resource request for proposals (RFPs). In addition, develop and maintain the engineering standards to support contract negotiation and execution of build-own-transfers (BOTs), power purchase agreements (PPAs) or Self-Build bid packages. Also allocates the resources necessary to review bids during the resource RFP evaluation process.
- Coordinate the review and approval of project engineering, design and procurement activities including evaluation of alternatives, concurrence, and approval of recommendations during each stage of projects as it progresses through the Entergy Stage Gate Process. Ensures that all aspects of the project design drawings from the engineering and construction firm and/or the equipment manufacturer are approved and meet expectations of key stakeholders, addresses barriers, and provides timely resolution to ensure that project timelines are not affected.
- Provides leadership and oversight of the engineering and design process to assure schedule compliance and contract compliance, provides timely feedback to Engineering team and drives for results and accountability in the project engineering discipline
- Promotes safe behavior, in accordance with Company expectations, and adherence to the safety rules, including on specific projects and visiting project sites.
- Partners with the project director or project manager for assigned projects; ensures that Project Engineers within the team are collaborating and completing necessary aspects of the project to deliver on expectations and outcomes
- Provides clear, focused mentorship and development of their team and the individual team members. Assures that the IDPs of each team member is complete and being meaningfully advanced.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
At least 10 years’ experience in capital projects development and management experience. Power Generation project development experience is preferred
