FULL DESCRIPTION: The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer is the mechanical designer for modeling, drafting, and detailing components and systems in support of commercial and defense aerospace products being developed. The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer should be capable of working independently and with minimal supervision. The roles activities also might include mentoring and guidance on a daily basis while leading other design engineers in implementing detailed designs from Concept through drawing release, Prototype development, Testing, and Production Release. Additional responsibilities will include developing test plans, defining the test methods of the products, and assisting the test engineers in their test procedures.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Develop reliable, cost-effective assemblies for new and/or existing product lines using solid modeling tools
- Generate detailed drawings of electro-mechanical products in accordance with customer and government submitted specifications in both commercial and military aerospace markets.
- Interact with Vendors to ensure the purchase of design-compliant materials
- Troubleshoot parts failure with quality assurance, operations, mechanical, and project engineers.
- Report Project details to both internal and external customers.
- Writes acceptance test and qualification test plans and procedures.
- Materials and process knowledge in machining, sheet metal forming, injection molding, laser etching, silk-screening, vacuum extrusions, and turning is a plus
- Configuration Management experience for documentation control. (Knowledge of drawing structures, assembly drawings, and document control)
- Participate in the preparation of technical proposals and specifications
- The ability to translate and create acceptance test procedures (ATP) and qualification test procedures (QTP) is a plus
- Must be able to apply government and customer technical specifications related to the design process
- Other tasks as required
The selected candidate will also possess:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering/technical field of study
- 5 more years of experience in CAD design and detailing of mechanical and some electrical components and/or systems in the aerospace field.
- Experience with documentation control practices and database maintenance for the organization of CAD files
- Must be a skilled PC user for Windows environment, along with applications like Outlook, Project, Excel, Word, Visio, and Photoshop
- Strong knowledge of Solidworks (SW16 and above) for 3D modeling development and 2D drawing implementation
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2004-06) for 2D legacy documentation
- Knowledge of ANSI dimensional practices per Y14.5 GD&T for true-position and standard dimensioning
- Working knowledge of failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA)
Salary Range: $100k-$125k/yr
