About the Job
The Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Leader is responsible for the high-level invention, creativity, design, and development of packaging equipment components and systems to support the manufacture, assembly, and commissioning of new innovations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Provide quality design and development of mechanical systems, components, and products, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
- Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes to design, prototype, test, evaluate, and implement complex problems. Execute designs for packaging machines and downstream processes.
- Project Management: Lead and design mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards. Manage multiple priorities, meet key deadlines, and accommodate changing priorities using effective time management skills. Develop and track progress through defined metrics and tangible goals.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to ensure project success.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, applications engineers, project managers, purchasing, and process and assembly technicians to integrate mechanical systems into larger projects and ensure seamless operation. Transition new designs into production and provide consultation and design support to internal and external resources.
- Calculations: Execute strength and sizing calculations or other analytical techniques as necessary for designing or modifying packaging equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including design drawings, design catalogs, specifications, test reports, and project schedules to facilitate communication and ensure traceability.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality within the mechanical engineering department and across projects.
- Customer Interaction: Interface with customers to understand their requirements, provide updates on project progress, and address any concerns or issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures, throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentorship: Provide mentorship and training to lesser experienced engineers and designers.
Qualifications:
- Education equivalent to a four-year degree in a Mechanical Engineering program, a related discipline, or equivalent experience and specialized training.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and documentation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively convey design concepts.
- Proficiency in using various precision measuring instruments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, and various Viking Masek systems.

- Occasionally works in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and/or reach above shoulders.
- May occasionally travel on company business.

Hours: Business hours are Monday through Friday. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours are based on departmental needs. (Can be flexible).
