Position Overview::This position will be responsible for the overall strategy and execution of molding tool/process development and process validation of injection molded components for the launch of new medical devices at Argon.
What you will do::- Lead all molding related engineering activities for the development of new products within the New Product Introduction (NPI) department.
- Lead the development and launch of new molding processes using your extensive knowledge and experience in molding engineering.
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure the manufacturability of new product designs and provide input on design for manufacturability.
- Establish a robust process window for all injection molded components using Scientific Molding techniques along with Design for Experiments (DOE’s).
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve any molding-related issues during the product development process.
- Perform molding process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) and mold qualifications.
- Establish cost estimates for molded components.
- Evaluate and recommend materials for molded components during the design phase.
- Develop and maintain molding process documentation, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process control plans.
- Use structured project management process to execute projects on time.
- Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends and advancements in molding technology, and recommend improvements to current processes and techniques
- Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on molding processes and techniques, and provide guidance and support to other team members.
- Adhere to all safety and quality standards, regulations, and best practices in the manufacturing of medical products
- Communicate effectively with team members, management, and other stakeholders to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or issues
- Act as a liaison between R&D, Tooling, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- RJG Master Molder Certification or AIM preferred.
- 8+ years injection molding experience in medical device industry or clean room molding.
- Must have excellent knowledge of injection molding presses (hydraulic and electric), molds, mold design and other related processing equipment such as hoppers/loaders, blenders, dryers, sprue pickers, hot runner systems etc.
- Must have experience working with common molding grade plastics such as Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, ABS, Nylon etc.
- Expertise in Scientific Injection Molding
- Must have the ability to communicate with as well as train and develop process technicians.
- Knowledge of general mold maintenance and repairs.
- Experience in validation of presses and molds (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Experience in Extrusion of PVC, HDPE and PU is a big plus.
- Ability to apply analytical skills and scientific techniques in problem solving and development.
- <5% travel required.
