Senior Molding Process Engineer
Purpose:
To be a member of the Mold Engineering Team, focusing on supporting new programs, trouble shooting, and Scientific Rheology practiced getting new molds/molding production ready and profitable.
Responsibilities:
- Minimum of BSME or Plastics Engineering advance degree required and minimum of 10 years of hands on injection molding experience with multi-cavity hot runner insert molding.
- Support the new product development teams by providing technical solutions for all molded components that are used in new products and work with R&D to ensure that designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost.
- Create and maintain all process and/or manufacturing related documentation.
- Participate as a member of the APQP Project team as it relates to Molding issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, teams, management and external partners with excellent verbal, written, presentation skills and collaborate with and mentor technical staff in molding engineering discipline.
- Experience with hands-on operation of molding machines with Arburg (Sological controller), Nissei, Toshiba.
- Experience working in integrated cross-functional product development teams and promote continuous improvements.
- Assist Molding Technicians and Quality personnel with any process and/or manufacturing related issues and promote the “Zero” defect philosophy.
- The ability to provide part design feedback and point out potential required mold modifications and ability to develop/implement process information/documentation and production improvement data is a definite requirement.
- Excellent organizational and technical communication skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize over extended periods of time. Must be flexible in dealing with a dynamic manufacturing environment working 85% plus duties be spent on the manufacturing floor.
- Participate as a member of the new program development/quoting team.
- Promote cleanliness and safety policies and procedures throughout the entire Company
Knowledge and Skills Experience:
- Statistical analysis knowledge required, including an understanding of how to execute Design of Experiments (DOE). Six Sigma certification preferred.
- Thorough understanding and excellent hands on experience with auxiliary equipment (i.e. Hot runners Mold Master preferred, controllers, Plastic dryers, Thermolator, MTV Mold heaters, Payout and take up systems, Portable hydraulic core pull systems).
- Thorough understanding of mold and machine setup, molding machine operation, process optimization, as well as mold design/function.
- Must be a driven self-starter that works with little supervision.
- Knowledge of material characteristics validate new polymer materials and thorough knowledge of molding processes for automotive and medical grade polymers.
- Moderate 3D CAD Solid Works a plus.
- Good Windows- based PC skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Power Point etc.)
- Knowledge of RJG Master Molder Certificate a plus.
- Knowledge of ISO, IATF/TS, QS preferred
- Stay current (magazines, trade shows, seminars etc.) on new molding related technologies.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) a plus.
