Alta is looking for a Senior Multimodal Transportation Engineer to join our growing Atlanta office design team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation. In this role, you will work on the design of a variety of sustainable transportation projects and work on projects focused on making a positive impact on communities around Georgia and across the country. This may include concept-level design for projects like complete street reconfigurations, development of construction documents, and production of high-quality graphics.
Specific project work will involve bikeway design, shared use path design and feasibility, streetscape design, civil design, and urban design. You will be challenged to think at various scales from the systems-level down to specific sites or intersections and learn from industry leaders in active transport. Day to Day
Our Engineering Associates will be involved in helping foster livable communities in all parts of the country. Projects would range from small natural surface trails to large arterial multi use paths; from Complete Streets to regional/multi-state bicycle and trail networks. A day in the life of could consist of:
- Managing transportation projects at various levels of planning and design.
- Leading specific portions of design plans, and contributing to high quality reports
- Contributing to proposal and scope development
- Communicating with internal and external clients
- Mentoring staff and contributing to internal professional development programs
- Presenting at technical and business development events
- Nurture and grow client and industry partner relationships; secure work in support of Alta’s growth goal
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity for Engineering Associate I
- 9+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity; 3+ years as a Project Manager; 3+ years of managing staff for Engineering Associate II
- 12+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity; 5+ years as a Project Manager; 3+ years managing staff for Senior Engineering Associate
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
- Experience in, and knowledge of, the field of active, non-motorized transportation.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for roadway projects and a detailed understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.
- Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations.
- Exhibits strong initiative and ability to capitalize on opportunities to enhance Alta’s position in the marketplace.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Excellent professional ethics, leadership skills, accountability, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and analytic skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, SimTraffic, BlueBeam or similar products.
- Proficiency in an enterprise-wide resource planning and project management tool.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field of study.
- Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.
- Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and/or providing expert level presentations at conferences and other events promoting the field of sustainable infrastructure and active, non-motorized transportation.
- Experience using Deltek Vision and/or MicroStation V8.
- Active participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committees.

Compensation
Compensation
The pay range for this job in Atlanta is $102,000-$160,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
