Position Description
Under the supervision of a Site Manager, the Home Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of individually packaged hot and/or cold meals to home bound senior citizens within the boundaries of our Nutrition program - Torrance, Carson, Hawthorne, Redondo Beach, Lennox and surrounding areas. The scope of responsibility includes, but is not limited to, maintaining an acceptable level of cleanliness of equipment and personal hygiene, following the established procedure and routine for meal preparation and packaging, driving prescribed routes (via map-quest) in their own car (mileage reimbursed) to the homes of their assigned seniors, wear the prescribed YMCA attire and conform to ServSafe standards for proper food service handling, convey a caring, pleasant and professional attitude towards the senior citizens and fellow staff at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum age is 21 years.
- Have the physical capacity to lift and carry delivery Hot & Cold boxes (approximately 25 - 40 lbs.) and any other such equipment as needed and be able to walk upstairs without constraint while making deliveries.
- Possess a valid California driver's license and auto insurance coverage on your automobile at all times.
- Possess and maintain a car or truck in good operating condition, not prone to breakdowns, which is suitable to carry the meal delivery equipment.
- Vehicle must have a functional cigarette lighter to be used to plug-in the hot boxes.
- Possess and be willing to use your cell phone to make necessary calls to the site as the need arises.
- Maintain registration of vehicle up-to-date.
- Be available for service Monday - Friday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and be willing and able to take on additional hours of service if called upon to meet the needs of the program and seniors.
- The ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, senior citizens and the general public is essential.

Responsibilities
- Set up equipment in preparation of receiving catered meals.
- Participate in the team effort of packing and sorting the meal components in an expedient fashion to stay within the safety guidelines of time and temperature control.
- Abide by all traffic laws while driving your car (you are solely responsible for any traffic tickets incurred and depending on the nature of the violation it could lead to dismissal).
- Take an interest and demonstrate a caring attitude towards all your clients and report to the Site Manager or HDM Manager any situations or circumstances which could prove harmful to them.
- Complete your assigned route within the prescribed safe time frame as prescribed by the Area Agency on Aging and ServSafe.
- Upon your return to the site, clean the equipment and store as instructed.
- Maintain all required documentation in an orderly and neat fashion (i.e. routing sheets, delivery notices, mileage records, etc.).
- Attend the quarterly training sessions conducted by the program nutritionist and pass the comprehension tests with a minimum score of 75%.
- Drinking of alcoholic beverages or the use of illegal substances while on duty is grounds for immediate termination.
Key result indicators include: program growth and high levels of retention, high ratings of the Standards of Excellence score and contribute to a positive working environment.
