Senior Online Services Engineer, Games Studio (Blue) - Netflix

The Role We're looking for a creative, highly-skilled Senior Online Services Engineer to help us build a brand-new, AAA, multi-platform game. The engineer in this position will partner closely with the design team to deliver a memorable player experience coinciding with play of the game. The role will require providing technical and developmental expertise into all design considerations of the game and will be responsible for the feature development and operation of live services deployed around the globe. We envision this role as the beginning of a new services engineering team growing with a new AAA game studio. This role will involve technical leadership and mentorship of other online services engineers as the studio grows and expands. Successful candidates for the position will need to demonstrate a history of delivering reliable, customer facing services at scale as well as a history of technical innovation, leadership, and teamwork. They will have a bias towards action and be energized by the learnings that come with bold experimentation at an agile pace. What you'll be doing in the role

+ Building, testing, deploying, and operating Services, APIs, and Tooling that support the player experience for our game + Architecting solutions to ambiguous problems and changing game design needs + Engaging with game designers and developers to deliver game and meta-game features and adjusting to considered player feedback + Understanding and solving distributed system problems that arise from deployments at a global scale + Participating in code reviews and design discussions with other distributed services engineers on the team

Must-have skills & experiences

+ Recent and proficient experience with an object oriented language - Java, C++, C#, or similar + 7+ years experience building & operating highly reliable distributed systems in a cloud environment at scale + Familiarity with available open source technologies common to cloud development + Passion for technology, pragmatic thinking, ability to jump into an ambiguous area and break down complex problems Experience working in the gaming industry is a plus, but not a requirement for this position. Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $90,000 - $600,000. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
