We are currently seeking a full-time Principal Engineer - Project Manager to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia.
Job Snapshot:
As a Principal Engineer - Project Manager, you will have a verifiable track record of developing clients and a book of business within South Carolina and Georgia utilizing the services offered by S&ME. Will plan and direct geotechnical and construction services work on a wide range of projects across all market sectors.
Responsibilities can include:
- Design and Analysis of Projects - Independently formulate conclusions based on own or subordinates' research or data collection. Assess the risk associated with variables input in the design and provide cogent reasoning to complex or conflicting data from different sources. Assigned projects may include investigations of more than ordinary difficulty or sensitivity that have resisted solutions or projects that have previously failed, or to support litigation resulting from such projects. Provide advice and assistance in areas of specialty to other disciplines when necessary.
- Mentoring - Lead teams with varying responsibilities and tasks. Provide counsel, advice, and in-house training to individual staff. Identify training needs.
- Project Planning - Decide the scope and extent of engineering and site investigation needed for accomplishing the client's objectives; choose the scientific approaches, plan and organize facilities and programs, and interpret results.
- Preparing documentation of (and mentoring staff in performing) field activities, observations, and testing on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications
- Generating and/or reviewing field and laboratory cost estimates and proposals in accordance with project plans and specifications, International Building Code (IBC) requirements, and client-provided requests for proposals
- Coordination of local and regional business development and marketing efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field
- Minimum of 20 years experience in geotechnical engineering and related project management
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in South Carolina and Georgia or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multi-state PE licenses
- Advanced degree in a closely related field
